Bad connection??

I have a wireless internet network settup in my house. For some reason, my internet keeps cutting out every couple minutes.
I once dc'd 6 times in a minute!!
This is really annoying and is preventing me from playing properly, and crippling my ability to do other things online.
If somebody knows an answer to my problem, could you please help me?b:surrender

    wi-fi connections are subject to many more types of over the air interference then wired net connections.

    Try connecting directly to the router or cable/DSL modem and see if the issue is still occurring.

    Review our networking info, and try resetting your network device on your computer, then reconnecting it.

    This may sound crazy but what floor is your router on. I had the same problem in a 3 story house (there were a lot of us sharing) when the router was on the middle floor. If possible your router should be on the top floor as the wireless connection tends to travel better down (no idea why, I think it's the arial direction or something)

    Another option is to change the angle of your reciever if you can.The arial and reciever directly pointing at each other is actually the weakest connection. I used to stick it to my desk at an angle with some blue tack.

    Make sure everything is well connected with you wi-fi. I once was having that trouble with my PC which has a wi-fi card. When I checked what was wrong, it happened that the card had come loose of the motherboard...

    the modem is on the floor above me.

    my receiver is one of those things you plug into the outside of the computer, like the mp3 port or something. and it is plugged in properly

    dont have access to modem and have no idea witch direction its pointed in...

    can the receiver being warm afect its ability to work properly?
