You will get a split recommendation of:

    All HP
    All PDef
Mix and match between the two.
Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.

it depends on your play style but its pretty much this. i like all citrine, and just using pdef ornaments + fox form if i need def.

4 citrine on cape and hat and 4 garnet on all other armor is a good combo

If you want pvp and your don't have garnets you're pretty screwed most of the time.

I'd recommend HP for pure arcane; if you stat vit I'd recommend pdef shards in at least main armor pieces, if not in cape and hat as well. I'd always recommend pdef armor pieces to complement arcane armor; get your channeling from rings, sleeves, and weapons. Mag def ornaments hurt my eyes.

Mix of hp/pdef for arcanes. I like flawless/immac garnets in cape and hat (cheaper) and citrines in the rest of the gear. Pure citrines for a pure arcane/magic build is pretty suicide. You get 1 hit by almost anything in PvP.

    This been argued recently before.

Perfect Garnets are about half the price of Citrine.
Garnets get boosted by Fox Form - Especially for Sage.
All necessary HP can come from refines and equips. - No stat vit needed!
Sharding with perfect garnets will balance your mag and phys def (for pure mag arcane) leaving you with cheaper HP filling, cheaper MP (Soul transfer), more effective Leech, and excellent survivability.

The only real problem is there are a lot of 'you need XXX HP' idiots who will tell you you can't do things that you can which even may get you excluded from squads.

its all about play style dunder head. all citrines works just fine on a vit arcane, who incidently has better spike survivability than LA builds. LA > robe def fer sure too ;P.

    Yeah, but this one:
    http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=497702

Is the one I was actually looking for.

For people reading this thread later? Don't shard rubies :) Well, not as your main gems, I can think of occasional uses blah blah blah.

Don't shard rubies. You'll regret it.
