This isn't a thread to bash the Halloween "event" (and I use the term event loosely since it's not an event).
This is a thread to get players behind so GMs can see how much we want a real in game event and then the GMs can pass along this useful tidbit of player angst to the powers that be.
What we want:
- An in game event that requires us to perform some action based on level ranges
- A reward for doing this task/tasks
- The reward should be useful and meaningful, but not necessarily over powering. I.e. event pots are nice, shards are nice, some 3 star gear, maybe a random chance at 2 star level 4 and level 6 items for crafting quests. Perhaps a chance at dragon orbs, mystic tomes, etc. Anything really would be nice. Not Lunar gear, Frost gear or warsoul weapons though.
What we don't want or don't consider an "event"
- We don't consider buying a cash shop item to trade in for something an event. That's called a "purchase". The same with just trading in game coins for a box. Also called buying. I do recognize though that a coin sink is needed so incorporating usage of coins (not Guardian Angels or CS items) as part of a quest would work. (I will cite examples below)
- Make us do something for the JJ attack level boosts next time. Anything. Have us fly counter clockwise around Plume City 6 times while shouting "I love meatballs, the movie, not the food" 9 times in trade chat. Anything so long as it occupies our time and gives us something to do.
- Outside game events. Granted some people do enjoy showing off their artistic and creative talents. And some are quite good at it, but the majority of the player base doesn't want homework. We want to get lost in the game somehow and escape work. If I wanted to develop videos and make calendars I'd have gotten a job in graphic design.
- One time must be logged in for the precise time events - These have their place, don't get me wrong, but it would be nice to have events anyone can do. So the hide and seek events I will give you a pat on the back as a nice try (and I'm being sincere here), but lets do something that allows everyone a chance. Not everyone can be logged on at 4:15 precisely on Friday, etc. (I cited a random time/day, not actual, but used just as an example).
- A meet the GMs lag fest - These have been done before and nothing comes from it. A million players show up and everyone starts yelling. No one can move from the lag and the GMs answer 4 of the 7000 questions asked, none of which are relevant. I.e. They choose to answer that they like cinnamon pop tarts over Pillsbury Toaster Strudels as opposed to answering a real game related question like how do you plan to expand the player base and keep interest for higher level players.
So you get my point. We want an event. The Xmas event was cool. I think most would agree with that. Sure it could use some adjusting, but it showed you tried and cared about the player base. That's what made it fun. To show you what I mean by events here are two examples:
Halloween Event:
For instance help JJ make some punch for the holiday. He needs 5 of each herb based on your level and of course he'll need a punch bowl to serve it in and finally 10 special spice packs. Let's say they introduce a punch bowl at the merchant to buy for 50k of in game coins. Then lastly he'll need the special ingredient. Would be cool if they had Halloween specific mobs (pumpkins, ghouls, pacman like ghosts, anything) all over the map that appeared randomly in different places and pretty frequently that dropped a special spice pack for the punch.
Then you bring all the ingredients to JJ and based on your level (which determines the level herbs you need) you get a gift pack with goodies in it. Nothing crazy like no warsoul weapons but maybe some cool stuff and perhaps a super rare shot at a mount or something.
An event like this would benefit ALL players, CS users and non, and not be dependent on the Cash Shop at all. Everyone no matter the level or ability would have a chance to play and win. It acts as a coin sink to get buy the punch bowl, gets people foraging for herbs and also let's them hunt monsters who appear randomly so RPKers can't camp lowbies and the QQing will be down.
Maybe some tweaks need to be made to make higher level players pay more for cauldrons or have specific cauldrons needed for different herb levels with prices of them increasing as the herb level increases. Or maybe have mobs of higher levels needed for higher level players. Who knows. It's a start point of an idea.
Thanksgiving Event:
Can be similar to the Halloween Event mentioned above, but instead of a holiday punch JJ is making his famous stuffing for his holiday party and needs help gathering ingredients. Same principals apply as above meaning you need to gather items and then buy an in game item using coins to combine them. Or maybe instead of making stuffing JJ just needs you to kill as many crazy psychotic turkeys as possible to save PW.
The point is with both ideas it gives everyone something to do and could be fun. My hope is that the same mobs used for Christmas would just be reskinned so perhaps it wouldn't be as much work creating and the only items they would need to dev would be a cauldron and spice pack or something similar and put it in teh database to buy. Now I'm not a programmer so I can't say what's easy and what's hard. I won't go into that because it's not my place and I can't speak in an educated fashion about it. However I can say what we want.
I know that everyone is geared up about Tideborn and the devs are working on it to get it out, but Halloween and Thanksgiving happen the same time every year. Surely there has to be some down time during a full year that something could be created and put aside for the right time. You had to know we'd want something.
OK my rant is over. Please feel free to lock my thread now as I somehow fear will be done.

Good suggestions and critique. 'real' events are something kinda rare in these types of games from what I have seen.
The devs (not GM's) seem to think unless they are going to make money off it they can't be assed to do anything.

i have to agree the xmas event was fun altho i wasnt able to be here for the most of it i really liked it ...and most the events u have mentioned as idea sound fun and i would enjoy doing
. >_< and i also agree that cs "events" r prettie bad i hate seeing them. and this anni pack cash shopper event is really lame cuz it gives insane gear to cash shoppers.

real events would be nice but this event is pretty cool as non csers get a somewhat better chance and we get free stuff
and we had real events that were just horrible to examples are valentine jewel luring and insanly hard to get roses or easter egg hunting it was a real event but really unpredictable and a lag fest where i kept dcing
christmas/new year was pretty cool and chinese new year was pretty cool to
we had good and horrible events either way the current even is pretty nice and the devs probally wont make better events i just hope valentine never ever gets repeated like it was last year for now im happy with this halloween event repeating last years christmas would be a great idea toits impossible to always do the right thing we all make mistakes i am not different from that
just try to be a good person
english isn't my native language so there might be a few spelling/grammatical errors in my posts0 -

They don't exactly make a killing off of the halloween event since the prizes can be bought with coins or GAs and I do believe most people are using coins. I could be wrong though.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
See its black and white now. It means I quit! How poetic and stuff.0 -

the val. event wouldnt have been so bad if there were more rose gardens or it was bigger and he suggested that the mobs would be placed in random spots which would make it near impossible to lure a boss to ppl killin the mobs for the event0 -
You can pretty much forget any event that requires coding in the game.
It took them a month to fix a simple bug they already knew the resaon why (cube room 27 bug). They'll never code a free event in the game anythime soon.
You'll have to move to a non-pay-to-win game to get those.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Thanks Brit for the sig b:laugh0 -
You have some excellent Ideas and suggestions here!
I hope to see the return of last years xmas event because it actually gave you something to do and have player interactions (yes it still cost some money to buy and sell the cards but as a whole adding the snowmen was cool!)
I will be extreemly happy if some of these suggestions are taken into account for future events.Raging Tide Guild:resolvepwi.mmoguildsites.com

You'd be surprised. The thing about pwi devs is that they will NOT under any circumstances give us anything for free or sacrifice ANY potential profit for the sake of their players.
-JJ sinks coin, gold maybe becomes affordable and 90% of players don't ragequit. Hammers become profitable again and if gold sinks enough they can eventually repeat the whole milk-money cycle again. No loss, potential win.
-Pirate suits offer huge promotion of the real thing. Players get attached to their suits after the week is up and end up buying one themselves.
-Blessing loses them absolutely no money. No boutique items are compromised here. Players taking advantage of the power boost stock up on charms, angels, and other utilities.0 -
An event like this would benefit ALL players, CS users and non, and not be dependent on the Cash Shop at all.
They would have to actually care about the player first instead of the almighty $$$.
Not gonna happen.. and i guess i can't really blame them, i'm not going to work today and doing it for free.0 -
Big surprise. My thread was moved so n ow it will be hidden in obscurity. Classic GM move. Thanks.0

You were posting a suggestion, and it was moved to the appropriate section. Classic GM move by keeping the forum tidy, don't take it so personally.

It wasn't just a suggestion. It was a comment about general "event" strategy and I was looking for input from other users. It critiqued what is currently being done as opposed to only saying what should be done.
By moving it here it is now officially dead. No one reads this box. I don't want you to take it personally either, but it seems every time someone posts something controversial it is either 1) moved to another Box 2) locked or 3) lumped into one massive thread where it looses any steam. Personally I find this very frustrating. I took the time to think it through and not just complain, but add a solution. Now it might as well have been deleted. lol.
Hence my "classic" comment. Oh well. enough from me. Its gets nothing accomplished.0 -

I call it the Epic Spoons Maneuver. b:chuckle
Anyway, I agree with the OP. If you want good examples of events, look at RS. They have the SAME events for both F2P and P2P communities. The only difference is P2P has more locations to do the event due to wider map range.
What we have here is not an event, but a money sink. A rather poor money sink, I'm sorry to say, since players can use the CS and save their in-game money and continue to dominate the economy as we know it.One man's pain is another man's lol.

It's still a suggestion. I'm not sure how it's "dead" here, if you want a GM to read it your mission has been accomplished.

Fair enough, but you nkow as well as I that the Suggestions box gets much less traffic and viewership then the general box. I still feel this is a "general" thread and I wanted the general population to read it as well. That's why I posted it there. It was purposefully done.
In any event it is what it is. Watch how many views/posts it gets now. Then you'll understand "dead". Ever see a thread subject in here get a couple 100 responses in here like on the general box? Its like the island of misfit toys here. Oh well.0 -
Too bad you're not on Sanctuary. Big event coming this Christmas..not as far away as it seems! b:victory[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

lol just get the arena workin and fix the rubber banding every time i run down a cliff it takes 10 try's and a bit of luck ><
a real event would be wonderfull and i totaly agree with your suggestions man but hey they still havent fixed the above rubber banding and thats been here from the start
a plug in instance accesable through a npc availibal for a set amount of time would be an easy way to get around the codin problem you could also make it lvl specific n only compleatable once (you can fail as much as you like though lol)
easy to do:
1 room a boss kill it make boss tough have 10 lvl ranges from 30+ (30-40,41-50,51-60 etc) have the boss be theme apropriate.
easy enough right?b:chuckleGifs are hard to make work here0
