Surviving Gamma

Long story short:
- contributed well to a RB gamma run (aoe, FoxForm Myriad, etc...)
- did not tick HP charm through the whole RB UNTIL last boss
- Last boss kept 1-shotting me... buffed, unbuffed, near cleric's BB, away from BB, FoxForm.... didn't matter... 1-shot every time... ate 60k+ off my charm!!
- I'm 3k-ish HP unbuffed, with 700ish pdef

Question: what do you Arcane venos do to survive this guy? Is it positioning/strategy? Do you switch ornaments (necklace/belt) to Pdef ornaments? Do you maybe even keep a low-lvl Heavy Armour set to switch into? If I switch into low-lvl Heavy gear, I'll lose the +HP/vit on my arcane stuff.

Granted, this was the first time I met this boss, but any advice to help me survive the next fight would be great!!

(what confuses me is that the cleric survived the whole fight while me and 2 archers kept dieing b:sad)

Yes, definitely have p.def ornaments with you to switch to. Actually, I would advice you to switch to p.def ornaments permanently, but that's more about build, not about gamma.

I have noticed that you mostly get killed by boss direct attack, not by aoe. That's also explains why archers kept dieing - they was stealing aggro. Also I used golem in whole gamma stage and he survived the last boss without even healing him.
You might try to get barb to attack boss for few sec alone and only then rest of squad starts to DD.

I am LA and had 3.2k+ hp unbuffed when I was running gamma and last boss still managed to get me and those where direct attacks. Aoe took less than half of hp as charm didn't tick. *grumbles at times when she and boss died at the same time*

most of the time I just let the pet DD while I hid. Its smarter to me to just let the auras heal it, and allow it to have a chance to deal a decent amount of damage to the thing. Its stronger than alot of FB99 bosses, so IDK. :|

Going sage is like drunken sex, at first she may look good, but when you wake up the next morning; you'll look at her and go WHAT HAVE I DONE.

I don't know if arcane veno can survive it.

I was LA with nice equips and HP and still sometimes nearly got 1 shot.

Only way I could survive without nearly dying was foxform for the whole fight and even then the charm ticked after some crit aoe hits. Usually just ended up amping/debuffing/attacking alongside the tanking barb while herc did all the hard work.

Never got hit by a direct physical attack.

Stand well outside his aoe range but in the range of auras so you get hit by the chi aura. Bramble hood --> ironwood --> amp (myriad rainbow if you have it) --> run the hell back outside of his aoe. Wait for the auras to fill your chi and repeat.

And of course, have herc hitting the boss constatly. Buffed and with the help from the auras he won't need any healing.

With that low p.def and hp, even with BB you'll still be a 1 hit. Try to get about 1.2k+ p.def selfbuffed and at least 3300hp to survive. Phy. def ornaments are a must.
I was early taught to work as well as play,
    My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me everyday.

If you're arcane you need some defense against physical. I disagree with the idea of always using physical ornaments, as the big advantage to arcane is nukes/heals that are around 15% stronger and far more options/availability for channeling gear. However, you're 0 dps if you're dead, and at times the only way to not die is to be able to handle a couple of hits. Garnet shards, melee/protection ornaments with +physical def mods and refines, and having fox skills so that you can contribute in fox if necessary will all handle that. Mine is still lower than I would prefer, 65% with buffs but it's enough for me to survive. I don't like giving up my channeling at times such as against ancient evil, but when my options are no channeling, being able to amp, keep a pet up, and use a few fox skills or keeping channeling for the fight but doing 0 damage because I'm dead, I don't really see it as a choice at all.

Anyways, what I have right now for my physical set is nothing great, but it's enough to get the job done:
    Mogwai Belt, Artists Pendant (3 mag 4 vit), Fearless Blaze +1 4 socket (+94 physical x2, 4 beautiful garnets), 3* Dialectician's Smoking Vest +1 2 socket (+94 physical 2x average garnet)

On top of that, all of my normal gear is 4 socketed with a mix of beautiful/flawless garnets. I would recommend just going through the protection sections of the AH on occasion, if you see something with physical that's a good buy, pick it up. You just need stuff that's good enough to keep you alive, not being primary gear I don't think it's worth putting a huge investment into unless it's a really nice item.

In gamma there's also the option of sending the pet and just standing far away, but that's just one step above you being dead as you're 0 damage, only your pet is doing some with that solution.

use fortify+feral concentration when you're in trouble and then switch to fox. bramble hood also does the trick. even then, as many suggested, you should get phys def ornaments.

actually you should probably just sit the fight out and let the pet (if its a herc) do the dding. run in for an amp if you think you have the timing of the boss' attacks down. bcuz really.. final stage is the bulk of the exp. its not worth it to die and get tpd out just bcuz you didnt wanna appear useless or lazy to the rest of the squad. if they're experienced, they should know better and be understanding, even demand that you stay out of range.

majority of the runs i had done in gamma, neither i, the cleric, or the wiz were able to survive the aoe. i remember one run in particular where it became a huge fight bcuz the bm kept screaming at us where to stand (in the aoe range) and in the process of trying to shut him up by obliging we were repeatedly killed and the cleric tpd out.
