Hi there, I'm pretty new in PWI
May I know what is the what pet is best for tanking?
- High Hp and High Phy Defence (Land/Air)
- High Hp and High Magical Defence (Land/Air)
I would like to train 1 of each and I don't have cash to spare, so Hercules and Phoenix are out for me.
Thank you so much for helping me!! b:victory

i have a lvl 30 veno... i recommend Magnamite till you get to play it... it got quick atk rate: 0.6sec... also it got too much hp to tank nd hi phy def... also it is useful coz most enemies for now will do phy dmg... better keep two pets... like other being antelope pup. it also got considerable hp nd very hi magic resistance best for lvl 25 - 40 coz enemies do lots of magic dmg >.>
hope this was helpful ^^0 -
Crystaline Magmite: The end all be all for tanking land pets, tamable by the town of TImberfield at level 18.
Decent Air Pet: Level 8 Petite Sawfly south of city of the plume. Requires some bit of heals to maintain as its defense is average, but it has the second highest non legendary pet damage( just under vericose scorpion)
If you need help with your veno, Id suggest reading my brother's guide, 'Arcane/Robe Veno guide' stickied at the top of the forum.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

If you only want one of each, I suggest using a Shaodu Cub for land. It has less p.def than the Magmite, but it has much more m.def, which is on on par with its p.def letting it tank any sort of mob without too much trouble. For air, the Windwalking Piggy has much better p.def, m.def, and HP than the Sawfly, but you'll probably end up tanking yourself since the Piggy has such pitiful attack power that you'll end up pulling aggro off of it. So the Sawfly is better as long as you keep your healing power up.God of healing, bless those that stand before you...

There's plenty of threads talking about pets on here.
And there ecatomb: http://ecatomb.net/petstat.php which gives a 'top ten' of pets by their abilities.
For flypets you're basically limited to the insects (sawfly being the obvious choice) and foxwings (the pinaar at 34 is the earliest of those) - there's really very few different flypets until the 70s (elysium fowl and moth round it out)
For the land, the carapest beetle is often given as a good alternate all-rounder if you think you need the mdef that the golem won't give you. Alternatives include the antelopes (starting at 30, and WAY too low HP for my taste)
And before tweakz comes in and starts ranting - grab a cactopod or (preferably) an eldergolth. Because ranged attacks open up all SORTS of new tricks.
A golem will serve you faithfully and well into your 50s at least, and will still have uses beyond then.0 -

However, no stat is useless, and the low evasion and mdef of the golems can become a PITA in some places.
One good resource:

There are quite a few good options, if the golem doesn't fit you.
I can't say beyond the mid 30s, but I personally find wolf 2, sables, qingfu, and beetles to be far superior to an antelope pup--they are practically too squishy to level with, and there are carapests to consider.troll ...................."adults on HT is an ancient myth used to scare away the kids from stealing their parents credit cards " - Santacruz0 -

I don't recomend the magmite, it does have wonderful p.def but it's huge, so it's always in your way and it's terribly slow.
If your willing to wait till level 20 I do recomend getting a shadou cub, they are wonderful tankers in my opnion.
But, there is a difference between a good tanker and a good aggro holder. You could have a good tanker that you wouldnt have to heal for a while so that you can just fire attacks, but all the sudden the mob/boss starts coming at you, fail. A good aggro holder will most likely have to be healed more but when you fire your most powerful attacks at the mob/boss the pet will hold aggro so that you aren't running for your life.0 -

We are all trolls or else we wouldn't have so many posts under our names. Deal with it. If you don't like the information that you get or the way it is presented, bite your tongue and deal with it.
Outside of the legendary pets - Windwalking Piggy and Shaodu Cub are best if you can get your hands on them. If you want to PvP Kowlin is pretty good. Yes, those are all "rare" pets.0 -
To be honest, I got both - shaodu and cristaline... And I kinda prefer my Rocky over the shaodu. But as all venos (or at least 95% sane ones b:chuckle ) I'm gunning for herc and nixTime is never wasted when you are wasted all the time.0

Hmm,
Ok from what I've gathered, most players would keep:
1) Magmites
2) Sawflies
3) Eldergoths
I'm not a fan of cash pets nor rare pets coz it's way beyond my means to get 1 as s starter to this game.
But has anyone ever leveled a ""Nonastral Beetle King ""??
I've compared it to other pets and it seems like a good choice as an all rounder pet.
Here's the Link:

http://snowbloom.110mb.com/pl1.htm#astral
I've compared the [Astal beetle class] and the [Qianfu beetle class] and it seems the former is a better all rounder, with skills like bash and tough.
What do u think??
P.S: What about rhinodrake??

Once you reach L45+ you can try to tame them yourself. It requires luck and a little skill timing your Tame. It is possible.0

Beetle Report: http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=156382
That got me trying qingfu and beetle. The beetles don't hit for much, and it is very noticeable, but they have well-rounded and strong defenses. All the coin going into skills, for pets tamed earlier, can be made back in just a few nights of cat shops, thanks to good skill choices generally having a pronounced impact on efficacy and speed of killing monsters (more drops to sell, safer to stop for herbs and mines, etc.).
I won't say anything bad about any of the wolf types, though, and am using a Heartless Wolf right now (technically I'm checking the forum while meditating for MP, but...)."adults on HT is an ancient myth used to scare away the kids from stealing their parents credit cards " - Santacruz0 -

+1
Now, back on topic. A magmite (crystalline or volcanic) will be the best physical tank (in terms of both HP and physical defense) that you can tame in-game (herc is obviously better). Problem with magmites is that at around level 50 or so, normal mobs will start to use magic more often so you'll see situations like the one I'll describe below.
Random Mob: lol, i haz magic *zap*
Magmite: OMGWTFHAX *dead*
Admittedly, a magmite will have enough HP to take a few hits from magic but you'll have to heal it much more often. I recommend getting a shaodu, it's p.def is lower than the magmite's but it's magic def is higher (shaodu's p.def and m.def are the same) so it's a better choice in my opinion. Shaodus are rare so it'll be difficult to tame one but I'd say it's worth it.
As for an air tank, windwalking piggy. It's the only air pet that you can call a tank. The bugs have mid-high damage but crappy defenses and low HP while the foxwings have low-mid damage with only slightly better defenses and HP. Piggy is also rare but mine is level 48 can tank level 60 foxwings just fine (long enough for me to kill 2 foxwings, heal my pig, and one shot the foxwing my pig was tanking).Meh, saw a couple other people doing this so...

Eh. Lvl34 foxwing pets can tank lvl60 foxwings. Admittedly, with chain healing There doesn't seem to be anything in the air that makes it worth fighting for the pig.0

True. D=
But the piggy has a flowery butt. =DMeh, saw a couple other people doing this so...

b:cuteI'm in my level 50s now and this is my input.
My Golem has served my faithfully from lvl 18 till now and though admittedly slow, but he makes up for it with his damage and did not die on me unless the being ganged.
I have a Sharpshooter too, faster than golem, has got range advantage on mobs kiting the ape. Though I heal a little more, but he's a good pet nonetheless.
Hope this answers your question.b:cute0 -
I found holding aggression with a Shaodu Cub to be a pain in the ****. It has nearly half the attack of a magmite, and I always find myself having to kite while he tried to regain it. It really isnt worth the coin nor did it live up to its hype.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Flesh Ream, Pierce, and Pounce all generate decent aggro. The pet is never to blame for the veno taking aggro. Bash and Slow cycle faster so they're better at maintaining aggro.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

I *think* part of your problem is that the shadau only has level1 of its skills. (And the skills it has cycle slowly, but you can't fix that part without stopping it being what it is)0 -
If you want to grind with Cub, you may consider leveling bash and howl rather than Pierce and Flesh Ream. Howl has slow cool down, but will help you kill faster while generating aggro. Slow can generate aggro if you plan to use it as a debuff lurer, but keep in mind you probably won't need it for such until the Armored Bear (more suitable for debuff luring) is available.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

If you go for the Cub, get bash instead of flesh ream, or use both, i recomend that you use two attack skills on pet's that have 0.8 of attack speed, since they always have less attack than the 0.6 ones. If you don't have money for the upgrades then don't bother with the cub, cause is certain for the mob turn to you all the time, you can let the cub hit a little for take the agro, but in some crowed map's you don't have this option, cause everyone will KS your monster.
Bash + elemental bash for tanking purposes only, both have fast cooldowns, i didin't knew that howl also generates agro.0 -
Shadou is wonderful if you level it's skills, otherwise, I don't recomend it.
The Cuddly Pup can is a good lurer, excellent at holding aggro, and a fairly good pvp option too. I highly recomend it.0 -

WaffleChan - Sanctuary wrote: »There are nicer lures for land; The most commonly used ones are Eldergoths and Kowlins. When you get higher, there is a bit more of a durable lure called a Ninetailed Firefox when you hit the 80s. It runs slightly faster than some mounts and has moderate durability. The not so durable, Acephalid Death Knight General is a good lure too.
b:chuckle I use variants of the DKs in TT2-# whenever we come up on Feng and run in a circle with him before stowing him again. Scares the **** out of people sometimes but I get a kick out of it.
Kowlins make good PvP pets in my opinion because 1. they are very fast and 2. they come with a L4 Flesh Ream, which is easily maxed out. All you need is Blessing of the Pack, Claw, and Pounce and you've got yourself a second nix! However, I'd just settle with replacing Bash with Pounce and then max out the debuffs it comes with. I can handle my Kowlin being a bit squishy so long as my adversary dies before I do.0
