How to play the game without cash (PvE)

There is no need for all the QQ'ing over the sales. The price of 100k per gold was ridiculously low as I could have illegally made a modest living off selling coin for cash at that rate. It would be ridiculous to expect the GM's to keep the trade prices that low. This game gives you every opportunity to earn in-game. For those who don't or can't work outside of the game: we can work inside the game for the same items regardless of class. Starting out with the low prices helped populate the servers. It's now time for permanent change and acceptance.
Buy and Sell! Higher gold prices = higher differentials in item costs. There is higher potential for profits buying and selling with higher gold prices. To use your catshop which is tax / fee free: Press E, and choose Consignment Shop. People will sell you stuff for a fraction of what people will pay so use both sides of this shop and find your niche in the market. Any time you're not playing: buy and sell! Keep an eye on chats for deals, watch out for maintenance changes, use good location, and appropriate label for your shop.
One Man Army! -I can't stress this enough! -6% ch, +2crit rings, purgotoral, demonal documents, crusades, scrolls, rare mats like oils/leathers, and abundance of mirages (from combining frags), etc and sufficient rep! Do NOT do Crazy Stone, or World Quest! They are total wastes of time and coin potential for non Cash Shoppers. The only Dailies I found to be worth doing are Bounty Hunter and the OHT one and BH ONLY to compensate your XP loss from dying. I only pick up the BH quests now and turn them in if I go on a Tabbed FB for them. 5 Levels after I got my TT Gold Pants, comparable pants were available for my rank. I'm lv.92 and often still use my Lv60 rank top for occasions. You should also obtain enough mirages this way to refine gears without Orbs to +3. Plenty of mats will be available on your way to and from spots as well as in spots.
Disposables! You don't need charms, guardians, genies, etc! With the coin you save /make following the methods in this post: you should be able to afford decent equips / upgrades / skills instead making them less valuable. Don't mind dying so much! You lose XP only. Your rep/coin/SP to xp ratio goes up from dying (you come back stronger!) There is no longer any risk for blue names to drop stuff when dying. I hear people say that Clerics need MP charms. - If you're doing the OMA above, you should have plenty of MP pots, Herbs to make pots (like focus powder), and plenty of coin for +mag equips (if you don't get sufficient ones from drops).
Extensions! Get the maximum Safe, Inventory and Cupboard extensions when you can find a deal on them. They pay for themselves over time.

Before Bounty Hunter was introduced: I could just about keep up with the Cash Shoppers on leveling, and many people envy my stuff. I have more experience actually playing my character and can get frustrated squading with others that obviously leveled the easy way. I have done some WQ, BH's, and other things to boost the XP but ended up regretting when I saw the next set of prices of skills, upgrades, etc. Some of my equips are +5, and imbued with Perfect or better gems, and I have excellent alternate equips for special tasks.
Doing TT is up in the air. At one time it was good coin, then it was horrible, then it was good coin again. FF can be fun, but the XP to Coin ratio is ridiculously high. Just be careful with the easy XP.

Buying and Reselling is all iv been doing, only way to keep up with everyone else if you arent buying zen from pwi is to buy from players in ah and resell cs items to make profit.0 -
Doesn't help when this type of sale virtually kills your niche market for either some time or for good or when you've already sunk money into a new niche market opened by the previous sale only for that niche to pretty much die again because of the new sale which is exactly the same as the last one.Induction ID (Doomsbog): 3080068X031808024008351Z3f4d220

Diversify.... it is smart to do that in RL, and in-game.
Your niche will go away, but 5 more will open.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.0 -
All the above mentioned methods of making money are now essential just to make a modest living. The divide between rich and poor is growing. The potential profit from the markets is not going to stay as high as it has been. The divide will weed out thoes players that make such profits possible. The days of keeping up with the cash shoppers is ending even for the most clever economists.0

Leveling slow and paying extremely close attention to the economy is the ONLY way to survive at all on this game now without spending real money. If you aren't a realllly good economist, can't cash shop and have have any desire to ever be a factor, this game is not for you.
I believe the first anniversary event was a hint to non-cashshoppers to stop wasting PWI's bandwidth. Running it a second time is just them saying "srsly gtfo now plox".[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

You are grinding so many mobs that the statistical chances of you getting good drops and those rare documents is much higher.
Lets say a 6% channeling ring has a 0.1% chance of dropping.
At level 80+ the one man quests have you kill 80 mobs. If you run those for 6 hours, at 15 minutes each, you would have killed 1920 mobs in those 6 hours.
Since the chance to drop the item is 0.1% that means 1 in 1000 kills. There you go, after your 6 hours there is a chance you got that 6% ring.
Note I am using those numbers as an example, I have no clue what the real drop rates are and do not feel like looking it up.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. You lvl 92 and still nOObas. Here is why . Little question have you ever done Rebirth or Zhen? According to your words about disposables apperantly you didn't . Now if you're Cleric or Mage: NewsFlash you can't use Apocathry items during Regeneration Aura(Blue Bubble) or Dragon Breath which leaves you only to pot usage or event items which recently cost ridicilous. Now lets talk about pot problem. Best pot you can use is lvl 70 which can be obtained through NPC and still ****(cost vs output), take in account 30 secs cooldown time. So if you on pots i hope you'll live long enough to use 2nd one. Now if you did by "chance" BH quests you would notice that 1 boss takes at least 20k mana with equal squad members lvl and BH for them(example:Full squad of lvl 60-70 and boss Zimo) (Not talking about BH when your/squad members lvl is +20 to Boss). So dear author make a math how many lvl 70 pots you must bring just to that boss and stay alive.
About Refining: Idk , but you must be PWIholic(24/7)x365,6days in order to afford those amounts of Mirages to get decent refine of full set even to +4.
I wasted 30+ Mirs just to have my Armor torso to get to +4 without using any boutique help.(maybe me being unlucky , who knows). b:surrender

The Demonol and Purgatol Docus are used to get some rather good gear. You need one of each type (AKA: Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, and Venus) and complete them for either White Tiger Scrolls or Azure Dragon Scrolls for gear such as This Hat from Demonol Docus, or This LA Chest from Purgatol Docus.
@wnight: A few wrong pointers in your post:
A. Event Items, even at the going rates, are still cheaper and more effective than charms.
B. The Highest Pot you can get from the Apothecary isnt 70, but 60

soo to simplify... if u have no money--> more time you need to spend on pwi--->u have no life?

"Buy low and sell high". Easiest way of cash imo. Log on 10 minutes a day to check AH, buy some sell some. Dont even need to leave your computer running wasting electricity. I made 4-5m in a week just by buying/selling one particular item.

Get CS, than, instead of sitting around waiting, go do one or two quests, than turn in CS. If all you want to do is Crazy Stone, then by all means use it to level. You may end up under equipped and lack your skills, but you don't need them for CS. - Same with WQ.

At the end of the Anniversary pack sale I had 2mill coins and the rest of my wealth was in Tokens. I figured I'd sit on the Tokens, so I did some casual catshop trading with the 2mill and turned it into 18mill during the 2 week gap.
My "clever" strategy: Set up a catshop that's both buying and selling the same item, but at a lower selling cost and higher buying cost than the competition. Lower margins, but vastly higher volume = 16mill profit in 2 weeks for doing basically nothing but checking in once a day.
Overall, I estimate cash shoppers would need to spend about $80 per month to keep up with me. I know there are many who spend more than that, but that's their choice.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Ok, so how many high lvl player have any of you seen running around in sub-par regular or 1-2* gear? Not many, I would assume. How easy to forget that 3* is supposed to be good, high end gear. Molds and TT are epic stuff, and FF/Lunar are (or used to be) the items you dreamed off getting to show off your gear obsessions. Are we so complacent as to look down on those 'common' mold items and 'un-worthy' TT greens, just because some CS players are wearing the really fancy stuff? Honestly, pve, it shouldn't matter how fancy your stuff is. Even in pvp your really fancy gears are only a slight advantage. Where the CS really hurts (and always has) is in refining (oh yeah, charms too). Uber refines kill in pvp. Gm's, give us a way to farm orbs!

On order to keep up, 16m in 2 weeks doesn't cut it anymore. That was pre-anniversary that you could casually go after money like that. You need to hit around 25m per week just to keep up with the low end.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Basically it is a matter of perspective. I have had my mind set on obtaining gear that will now cost me 600m more to obtain instead of 300m. This is a huge obstacle in my mind. I could have made 42 mil per week (until supplies ran dry) no problem, but to get 600m i have to make 20m per day. (since i cant start making money til November, my deadline will be a mere 30 days from the time I can start selling stuff again, and for other reasons I will not mention.)
I've been crunching numbers all day and I did find a way to keep up with inflation and expect, with a little luck, to make 20m per day. But what sane person spends a day running numbers? And I could end up losing millions, who knows.
Basically if your not making spreadsheets and your not building computer models you will have to spend real life money if you want +6 refines, 4 sockets, and the rest of the goodies we all wanted since we started playing this game.
This is my perspective and it is quite overkill for people who simply want a playable game. From that perspective you are correct, the game is far from over for thoes who are willing to use lesser gear.
PS. If you are on Lost City, I appologize in advanced for what I am going to do to gold prices. b:laugh0 -

They're providing a service. The shop space is worth coin, and people use the buying part of it for quick coin for themselves. Both benefit from it and no one is being fooled or coerced.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -

I admit I've had more fun working towards items than actually using the items. It's sort of like how doing my FB19 at low level with just my girlfriend helping was the most fun thing I've had in the game, because it required so much planning and effort, yet the reward for actually completing the fb19 was completely forgettable.
I think that's where a lot of players burn themselves. They get it in their heads that they must have the best items in order to compete, and so they try to short-cut to getting those items with as little "wasted" effort as possible. i.e. the cash-shop.
To me, that's a path leading to an inevitable ragequit, because if you're not enjoying the journey then you're going to be sorely disappointed when you reach the destination and realize that all you've done is gotten a bunch of numbers on a screen to be higher than they were before.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Mmmmm understandable. But people have there different reasons on playing games and how they do it =P So this applies to all but not everyone will go through all that.
And thus, the QQ continues.

who really cares if you make 25 mil a week, or just 100k a day? Only if you feel like you can't "live" without those fancy, unnecessary, CS items do you need to make that kind of coin. My veno (level 70) went the whole way without any kind of CS items save for the iron hammer, which could have been done without really.
On my barb - i did free zen offers to get the 5 gold for the hammer, and a few extra for some mana and hp charms. 5 minutes to make 252 free zen is nothing. How fast do you make that much IRL money or ingame coin? Probably longer.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Lol...not all of us get that option for the free zen offers. Only americans do duh. Its not really International.
Me being in Australia, my free offers page has only 3 free things on it:
126 zen, in *hours*
16 zen, in minutes
95 zen, in *hours*
Only 2 of those are near 1 gold, and they take hours to do. The only one that can be done quickly gets you 0.16 gold...no thanks.you thilly gooses... feather set is thuper fabulous! -Bowlinbob
