Hello, new to PW, so my observation just that of this new player's first impression of the Genie.

    1. It looks like a great idea the developers had that in retrospect they wish they hadn't because of PvP balance issues.

    2. I see how Genies work now, but it would be good for someone to write up a "Genies for Complete Idiots" guide for new players.

    3. As a decorative pet, it's great. But if introduced at the beginning as a battle pet, it ought to level up normally like any Venomancer pet.

Feeding it Exp seems burdensome, time consuming, and tedious; and most of us new players are just not going to do it. Each day, I resolve to level up the Genie a bit, but somehow I always end up leveling me up instead!

    4. PW is a great game but can be bewildering even to new players with experience with a variety of other MMOs. Got a friend to try PW, and he made two horrible mistakes.

First he somehow missed the Taoist quests and wondered why he wasn't getting any new skills.

So, second, at level 20 he fed all his spirit points to his Genie. Upon discovering his mistake I think he felt frustrated and went elsewhere.

    5. Genies need some work from the devs. At the moment, they probably hurt more than they help from the viewpoint of expanding the player base.

    necessary - no
beneficial - in the right hands (ie, built smart with skills appropriate for your class)

some skills are just a waste to have - their space better utilized by something else. Holy path??? seriously? maybe if you PK alot and need a way to make a fast escape, but not PvE. If you're just using it as a way to occassionally boost your speed while traveling - I'd consider it a waste. Better to replace that with a heal skill, buff, or attack skill.

lol many Hamstas! Yeah I suicide a lot on people 2 lol, though I really do want to win if they are around my lvl ><. Domain and Occult Ice are just hard to fit with other skills, and yeah cauterize is good i have heard... though I never got... If a nix hits me and i start bleeding I just assume im dead anyways... b:cry

    yay we is everywheres~
now take us to your sunflower seeds.
    (>.<)

also me suggest you don't bother leveling up your genie if you is a new player.
Genies be expensive to maintain too (chi stone cost alot if you only has a low level character to make $$).

just equip the genie so it can get the run off exp from you and forget about it until you hit 70~80+. ^.^

Ever since messing up the ToP skill genies seem like a waste of time, spirit, exp, and frustration. Chi stones cost a lot in bulk to keep them useable, you may as well just not bother with one unless you need a low level ToP (tree of protection).
Though it really does not do a good job of saving you in a battle as it used to. It was once wonderful for escaping "Omg mob spawned on top of me RUN." PvE Situations. But not anymore.

In my opinion, just leave it on you and level it up as u level up. The reason for this is that when u r higher levels, the genie comes with some cool support skills. If you do not level it up, i cannot imagine a level 80 character with a level 1 genie...

You can also convert the genie to an exp cube if u do not like the genie type u come with and use the genie exp cube on another type u like. But like the paragraph above, you need to at leave level the original genie up 1st to save u grinding time later.

DO NOT DELETE/SELL it away coz you think there's no use, leave it on your character.

Oh! By the way, if u want to use genie skills please do learn some of the manufaturing skills so that you can decompose items to get chi stones. If u don't replace your genie's CHI, then u cannot use it's skills, unless u buy chi stones from others
