If the attacker is the same level as your pet:

    damage reduction = def / (def + 40*lvl)
    damage reduction = 8282 / (8282 + 40*85) = 0.709 = 70.9%
    damage transmitted = 1 - damage reduction = 0.291 = 29.1%

Attacker damage = (phys attack) * (damage transmitted)
    Attacker damage = 5477*0.291 = 1593.8

Also, though it's pretty much irrelevant, I've found skills will hit slightly less than melee. With flesh ream for example, the initial damage is always 1 point under the regular damage. Like one type is rounding and the other truncates.

Nobody knows. Some people speculated you just put the attacker's level in the lvl in the formula. But that didn't work for some rudimentary tests I did. It hasn't been important enough for me to collect enough data to figure out. And pets seem to be either immune to level effects, or work off a different formula than players.

Pets are considered by the game to be NPCs. There is why they are on a different formula than players.
    Main characters
Celestial Sage Venomancer Zoe - 100
    Sage Barbarian Malego - 91
