What is the butterfly for?

What is the purpose of the small butterfly flying around your head? Can it attack or is it just for looks?

    Well it's called a Genie, and you can level it, use for attacking and it can give buffs debuffs and heal you..

    How did a level 61 get this far without having a clue what genies are?
