the only point "interesting" addressed in the OP question is:
why do bosses only gets higher HP/ damages.
thats not entirely true
there is a big difference between running 3.1 and 3.2 in squad mode.(steelation, colluast... )
but do they need to have 10% increase in damage/Hp with the change in tactics?I look at all the trollers, and Pvpers.. and know they wouldnt have lasted 30sec on Camelot.
Rules= Know your enemy (players and NPCs) gives you more chances to survive.0 -
Well I do have seen some games with a little bit of AI but then again its just a simple macro which can easily be predicted/deciphered/understood by most players (who have a little bit of observation skills) when they fight against it a couple of times.
Being a developer myself, I have thought about it and do see some major obstacles in making monsters "think". If you wish them to be just as strong as players then one they would need to think/act like players. This would mean they would require a learning AI of sorts thereby allowing them to counter player strategies. And if the monster is a learning thing, then the first you fight it, it would be easy while the second time it would be a little more difficult as it wouldve seen what each of the classes do.
Thoughts of an intelligent boss/mob:-
1.) Dang, I am running low on mana/health, lemme pot. Oh ****!!! I forgot to go to town to buy pots.
2.) Damn these humans, making my charm tick. *Opens PW Boutique after getting killed* buys 10 hp charms. MUHAHAHAHAAH!!!! Now lets see how those humans kill me.
3.) Dang why am I wearing this ****ty armour? Let me upgrade it and socket it with Citrine Gems. *Puts up a shop Archosaur stating Buying Citrine Gems ..Load of them*
4.) *Looking are 4 lvl95 pro players* My god, these guys killed me 3 times already!!! *Teleports to a city puts up a shop to buy above mentioned citrine gems and selling drops for ridiculous prizes* .... *Messages players stating they cant kill him now* LMAO
5.) *Sees a squad taking out the smaller mobs in the boss room* Oh so these wise cracks think they can clear the room and then attack me? I am not gonna give them the chance. *Starts attacking the squad after calling all the other monsters near by to attack instead of sitting there dumb*
Although it would be fun to have monsters think like humans, it might be too much to ask since it would require a lot of programming. The easiest way to ensure we players come up with strategies is to ensure the mob is powerful and have loads of hp thereby forcing players to gang up on them.
Till date the best AI I have seen in a MMO is that of a boss group in another game. The boss group consists of a tank, a cleric, 2 range DDs and 2 melee DDs which appear together. Now the cleric heals the other bosses when their HP drops below a limit while keeping itself in a protective barrier. Apart from all this, they have huge HP and atk which is extremely scary. In addition they summon 4 clones of themselves to aid in attacking. At best they can hold their ground for sometime but even after that players eventually learn under what conditions what skills are cast reducing the so called AI to a mere macro which was intelligently coded. So at best, theyre Macros which are a little hard to decipher. As surprising as it might be, they were taken down by a mere 4 member team who obviously were high lvled and stuff.0 -
