Pets for low level?

I just recently created a veno, only level 11. I was wondering what pets would be good to get?
Or would it be best to keep the pet that the pet trainer gave me until I get a bit higher? And if so, what pet should I wait until I am high enough to get?
Thanks!

Most veno prefer to use a tanking pet, mainly a crystaline magmite(lv17 golem). It got pretty good physical defense, life and damage, but once the magical mob enter the scene, be ready to spam heal or switch to magic tank pet. b:chuckle
The starting scorpion is also considered the best land damage dealer pet and i still got mine in the bank if I ever need it.
Both the cactopod family and eldergoth marskman have a ranged attack if you turn off it's auto-skill(right-click on it's skill), which make for good lurer. They can also have a ranged fight against archer/mage mob this way, making them not running away to get reinforcement to kill you. b:victory
If arcane, a pet with howl(most wolf) reduce the magic defense of the target, while fox form while prefer to get a pet with pierce(lv7-8 tauroc have it), which does the same to physical defense.
And I just remembered it, the lowest lv pet of the family have better stat than the latter one(except speed), but the latter come with better skills.0 -

Seeing that you have just started the game, my suggestion is that you keep the starter pet as your main and play around with the others you capture.
If you can afford it and plan to play a Veno for a while, the Super Cage is a great investment in the long run because it is much cheaper that getting one slot at a time and it allows you to get a whole bunch of pets to play with.
What you will find is that most mob you tame EVEN if they are strong or elite like the Darkbreed Wolfs aren't very strong when tamed, their stats get changed once tamed.
The Scorpion starter Pet is probably the most effective for fast leveling on the ground due to it's high attack which kills the mob fast. The Petite Sawfly (lvl 7) is the best for air mob but also works for ground pets.
The Magnamites at lvl 17/18 will become important when you can use them as they are the toughest tanks at that level and will serve you well (until you get a Baby Hercules) although they are annoying due to their size and slowness.
Some players like to advocate ranged pets like the Cactopod and although they can be used effectively, it requires a different play style and aren't as general purpose. By all means capture one and see what pet you really like but I would always compare it with your main pet to see which you find more effective for your play style.
When I started my 2nd Veno on a different server and already knew how to play, I was able to zip into the 40+ lvls just using the starter scorpion and the petite sawfly. But on my first Veno I had fun experimenting with various pets.0 -
Play style isn't really an issue. You get different pets for different purposes. The Scorpion starter Pet is probably the most effective for fast leveling on the ground due to it's high attack which kills the mob fast.
No, it's too fragile, and slow. A wolf that comes with howl would probably be better, and they can be disposed of and traded up.The Magnamites at lvl 17/18 will become important when you can use them as they are the toughest tanks at that level

One of the most well rounded pets there is.The Petite Sawfly (lvl 7) is the best for air mob but also works for ground pets.
No

Well, since im not as big of a hater on golems and sawflys as tweakz is...
i would recommend them both to a beginner, since the golem is a very good physical tank, has fairly high hp and will suffice until you understand which pets are best for what and whatnot.
The sawfly is also okay for beginners, because it has average def for both physical and elemental, average hp, but has a pretty huge attack (it has the 2nd highest attack out of all non-cash shop pets i believe), and will be good enough to tank air mobs until you find a better pet for your playstyle or a phoenix.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well, I can only say what I did.
I think I tamed just about everything I ran across that was tameable, just to see if I liked them. I mention only the notables below.
For my first 18 levels, I used my starter wolf and tried to keep my turtle levelled up.
Then I went a tamed a bucket of magmites, and kept a crystalline one.
I kept using the wolf in tandem until about level 23. It's still in my bank, but my petbag has a snakevalley wolfkin. Which serves duty as a lurer to this day. Slow rocks! Around this time I also gave up on levelling the damned turtle.
At 30 I tried the antelope people advised. I think it came out of the petbag twice, it certainly never gained a level.
Somewhere in my early 30s I upgraded my golem's bash and added another bash-like to it. It stopped losing aggro.
35 (I levelled up too quick) I got myself a pinnar foxwing. My first flying pet! It was happily able to tank supremes right away.
Oh, and I remember killing the low-ish airboss by summoning foxes one after another to throw at it and let them die. That was great fun. The pinnar beat out the void, even though it wasn't fully levelled, so I kept it.
41 I got myself an eldergoth, which *mostly* replaced the wolf as a lurer, and I kept equal level with my magmite and myself as a DD pet. Roar rocks!
Mid 40s I got a shadou cub. Which prompted a quick and enjoyable run of all the newbie areas. Which was great fun.
Somewhere early 50 I got my hercules. Which prompted another newbie area run. And much killing of beserkers.
And then in the next sale, mid 50s, I got my nix, and did it again again.
My current pet bag is:
Hercules (lagging one level behind me for some reason, ought to fix that)
Phoenix (55, ought to fix that, but what the **** CAN'T it kill?)
Magmite (it's still there, only low 50s though)
Eldergolth (ditto)
Snakevalley bloodkin wolf (low 40s is good enough to pull)
Shadou cub (ditto, though I do mean to level this one up)
Some random level 52 turtle
And three more slots that I can't remember the contents of, used for testing.
I know one has a proud antelope in at the moment, I think one of the others might be a cactopod from fb59. I'd have to check. Probably I ought to put a backup flying pet in there.0 -

Either best or aren't. Sidetracking and name calling do not make right.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -
hmm well i wasn't name calling, and i never said that they were best, which the OP wasnt even asking for in the first place.
i was just making a statement you know? b:sad since you seem to dislike them so much that you just say "no" to any recommendation for golem and sawfly made by other ppl.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

The Scorpion is the better choice and is a good one to keep IF you add more skills.
BUT unless you know what skills are work best for what you want to do it is best to wait on the adding skills business.
I tried several pets when I first started playing and found the level 9 Nostrial Bettle King to be the Herc of low level venos. This pet is slow but is a great great tank and comes good skills. You can add tough and Flesh ream to make it better if you want. This pet last me up to my 30s or 40s when I got a Herc. It is tried and tested.
PS remember to ALWAYS have a Backup for each class battle pet.
Also get a water pet as soon as you can and then a flying pet.Rise to Become Mighty so on the Wings of the Leviathan We will Soar....
