It would be much appreciated if someone (preferably in a position to know what they're talking about) could provide some clarification on the Death Penalty suffered by Blue Name players at the hands of a monster.

There is a post from Spoons here which states that:
Q: What happens to players who have blue names?
A: There used to be a small chance that a blue named player might drop items from his bag upon death. This chance has now been removed.

It is not clear to me whether this specifically applies to PvP only or whether it applies to PvE also. If the latter is true, it is at odds with the Death Penalty section of the Beginner's Guide which does not reflect this...

Hence my confusion...

I'm not in that position, but isn't a blue name PvE only?
I must be missing something, though.

Nah not really. Remember Cube glitch and theres pk-able areas in cube that are normal even. And I think dragon temple is pk area too?

But yeah, would be aweome to know if you still can drop things when killed by a mob .__.

Ahh, right. In that case, good question.
I did heard Dragon Temple is free of penalty. Not sure about CoF.
My guess would be that there's no chance of dropping anything bluenamed, since it was refered specifically as a bluename's death and not a bluename's death by mob or the like.
But it's always nice to have some clarification.

Well, yes I assumed the same but am just curious for two reasons now.

1 - Spoons' post was in relation to the gear shatter system and that's PvP only.
2 - The Beginner's Section on Death Penalty still states that a Blue Name player killed by a monster will have a 1% chance of dropping an inventory item.

Thank you for your answers though - it helps crystallise it for me bit by bit, since I am gaining the impression the Beginner's Section is out of date... But I'd like to know for sure... *sprays GM attracting perfume around* b:chuckle

Was stated in the notes somewhere, when shatter was introduced, that the chance of dropping anything when blue named has been reduced to zero. The beginners section guide was never updated. There used to be a chance to drop when blue named in PvE, that has been removed. There was never a chance to drop anything in safe PvP zones (these are areas where you are forced into pvp mode but still blue named), such areas as Dragon Temple, Territory Wars, Cube, etc, have always been safe from dropping items from PvP.

Interesting... I just looked at the date of Spoons post and realized that one of my chars did loose items upon death to a mob while blue named after the date of his post. It was just some herbs, so it was no big deal if I had lost them, though I had time to go back and get them before anyone else had stumbled upon them. Kinda weird that it would have happened after they had supposedly taken that out. Of course, I thought nothing of it because I had not realized they had removed that feature.

Cant say for sure, just speaking from my own experience.
I didnt think blue, or white names could drop items from being killed by mobs...
    (untill it happened)...=O
Was about lvl 27 and dropped a stack of about 3celestone fragments when killed, but thats only happened once, and nothing like its happened again.
Ive never really questioned it, so i dunno what other people have to say.

In PK room of the cube (those where someone must die so you can continue) you're name become redder as you defend yourself from being killed by someone already there. I asked gm and they said you can drop in the cube just like in normal pk b:shocked

You still have the low chance to drop when you're in PVE mode. Saw it happen yesterday.

I have not seen it happen in ages, and I just want some clear clarification on what happens when someone is blue name and gets killed by a monster.

My statement in the shatter FAQ stands, and I'll get the beginners guide page fixed to reflect this.

If you do happen to drop an item in a situation where you are certain you should not have, please submit a ticket. Although all the new changes are working as intended there could always be an unforseen error.

    bluename = pve mode, period

bluenamed players used to have an infinitesimally small chance to drop a random item from their inventory (with the exception of equipped items)

this chance has been removed (as per the shattering update or w/e)

dragon temple, TW, etc, are instances with special rules for use in the instance

if i'm wrong here, please, let a GM correct me

Thank you very much, I just wasn't sure if it was somehow misinterpreted by me :D.
