Different weapon paths

So I read people choose different weapon paths because of the skills, but I have to ask a silly question. If you go like sword/axe, and you want to use an axe skill, do you have to have both a sword and axe in your inventory and switch weapons whenever you want to use a weapon specific skill ?
Few people makes mistakes with fire after being once burned, of people who regard water lightly many have been drowned.

    Obviously you need to have to hold the correct weapon to execute the weapon specific skill.
    You don't have to put it in inventory. You can just equip the axe from the beginning then use only axe skill, then run back to the bank to change to sword when you want sword skill.
