Why HP helmets and not MP hats?

Why is it that HP helmets are considered superior gear for archers over Arcane (MP) hats?

Helmets require you to use significantly lower-level helmets in order to equip them without wrecking your attribute point distribution. Thus, the bonuses (+dex/str, etc) on crafted/dropped gear are lower than those on an MP hat of equal level to you. Admittedly not by much, but still.

I've never had any trouble acquiring an inexpensive MP hat with at least one of +phys resist, +str, or +dex. I feel like those bonuses are far more valuable than the difference between say, +100 HP and +200 MP, neither of which is all that useful.

Furthermore, for PvE at least, it seems as though the biggest threat comes from ranged magic monsters. The +2-300 elemental resistance that an MP hat can come with can help a fair bit there.

So can anyone explain why HP helmets seem to be preferred by most? I'll grant that the Helmet of Lion Spirit is better than all but a very lucky crafted MP hat, but most helmets seem rather lackluster compared to what can be found on a crafted or dropped MP hat.

    The MP pool is fairly meaningless with most aspects of the game and all things being equal 200 HP is more valuable than 600 MP. If you can find an MP hat with massive dex bonus than it could be worth it.

    MP hats tend to have random stats biased towards arcane users though so it's harder to find dex on an MP hat than an HP.

    Hmm. Maybe more MP hats with +str/+dex just wind up in the AH because they're not as useful to arcane classes as +mag ones are, whereas HP hats with +str/+dex get used by other physical classes as well. I've just seen very few +str/+dex HP hats compared to +str/+dex MP hats.

    Also, can you tell I'm bored? Getting 300mb updates over a slow internet connection takes forever b:cry. I suppose browsing the forums doesn't help, but I'm going through withdrawal here b:surrender

    i found a helm that was +240 mp (+120 twice), it's kind of nice, but i didn't have the str to wear it lol.

    it'd be cool to find a hat that gives massive hp bonus as attributes b:victory

    Hp helms gives squishy archers added hp. The mp given by mp helms wont help really when youre fighting. It may add an extra lighting attack but that's it. And mp doesnt add power to our attacks so kinda usless. If you find an mp hat with str and dex or added hp ( ive seen some of those) then my all means grab them before a arcane user sees it too.

    I used to think that arcane helms were good to use...like I can use more attacks, but what use is having mp when one hit can like take a quarter of your life away? Like i said, the added mp doesnt effect any of your attack's. Just like putting magic shards in your bow doesnt make your lighting attacks hit harder.

    I agree for the most part except... #1 i already have a bit of pdef since i'm at almost 100str. #2 in my case i waited a very long time to find that one crazy MP hat that has 3x bonus mp. So between my hat, my shards on it, and its bonus's i get almost 800mp from it... thats like 30% more then b4. It makes a huge diff in RB as far as spending pots up the wazooo go. To help compensate for not having hp helm, i refined it a bit to add some hp back to it.

    i often wear MP helmets caus i often find them with +dex/str atm i wear one with dex +4 and strg +2

    I have a +4 dex +5 HP recovery MP hat i use for a higher mana pool for rebirth. (Sharded with two immac turquoise)

    HP > MP

    but if you can get nice bonuses on your MP hat go for it..

    Legendary 59 MP helmet adds both 4-5 dex and 4-5 magic XD

    Well..I rather prefer MP hats due I have insuficient STR to equip the respective lvl HP hat to my level...refined few times +HP shards...so I have both Mp and HP...(but if you refine HP headgear, you don't get MP ;)...and I spend some atribute point on VIT...due Im archer, I get more HP/1 vit point like MP/1mag point(and it does good to the Hp regeneration to btw :), so it must bo conpensated whit the gear, 'cause it's wasting to put points on magic...
    And in PvE I get sooner low on Mp like on HP...

    For the most part, extra MP isn't as good as extra HP for archers. We are probably the class in the game that uses the least MP. (I'm unsure about PvP, but most of our skills aren't very many intensive anyway.)

    Pretty much, if both are equal in their bonuses, I will take an HP helm over a MP helm, but since most classes that tend to use MP helms don't give a care about dex, I always tend to look them over for a chance at a cheap snazy helm with a nice dex bonus.

    For normal grinding you can get by with mostly normal shots and maybe 1 or 2 skills per mob that need mp.

    Barrage of Arrows has a ridiculously high mp cost for some stupid reason, totally out of line with the wiz version. Demon barrage is much worse too with 655MP every 2.5sec.

    the problem is just... what are you archers need a lot of MP for!?

    yeah, go get those HP Helmet and keep "Refine" it for MORE HP bonuses...

    the more HP you have = the more you can survive = the longer you'll stay alive ^.^

    Mp-helmets are great for archers since we have like 0 mp pool. You should have 1 hp helmet for pvp and tanking and 1 mp hat for pve stuff b:cute

    You save so much mp-charm as an archer with an mp helmet, full set of gear that adds mp is amazing if your in a zhen party b:victory. Your charm wont tick every 10 sec lol and you can even hold a high lvl zhen up just auto spamming mp-pots ^.^

    My barrage of arrows is also lvl 11 now so i must use mp helmet or zhen stops after like 10-20 sec, the charm cant keep up since the skill drains mp so fast. If no mana aura lvl 1 in rebirth i have to put on the stupid mp helmet ;(

    oooo one can also argue that a higher level mp hat can have better bonuses than a low level hp helm. stuff like +dex, +hp, +resis is certainly greater on the higher level mp helm. i guess you just have to look around. my hp helm is +5hp regen, +115 pdef, +3 vit. i've yet to find a better hat, but i haven't been looking very hard hehe
