Downloaded PWI via Official site for Vista/W7 by bit-torrent.
Client Version is 166
Manual Patches Downloaded: 166-168 from all mirrors. 168-172 from PWI mirror.
Steps taken during installation:
Download was successful.
Proceeded with installation.
Verified downloaded content. Verification was approved.
Installed game.
Verified Installation.
Launched Game.
Game asks me for update preferences. I select all and choose Patch 1 Server.
Update fails as it is unable to connect to the server.
Attempted to check Patch 2 Server, same results.
Rebooted computer.
Tried again with the same results.
Downloaded manual patch for 166-168.
Executed the .cub files as instructed by the official FAQ.
Recieved error that it was unable to establish connection to the server.
(Why the hell does it need to connect to the server if its a manual download...*duh*)
Uninstalled game.
Re-installed game.
Used a different installation path than the default provided.
Continued the rest of the steps with the same results.
end
I have been unable to successfully patch this software.
I have not had a problem with any other online game I currently have installed on my PC.
I temporarily installed Anti-Virus programs one at a time (so no two would conflict) to search my system for viruses. Programs installed included: Avira, Avast, Nod32, AVG, and Norton. No results were found from any finished results. After trying out each program individually, I removed them to try the next one, after which I removed the last one so none of them remained.
I temporarily installed Malwarebytes, Super-Anti-Spyware and Spybot Search and Destroy. These programs do not conflict with one another so I had them all installed at the same time. I ran tests on all three. No results were found. I removed them after the results.
I temporarily disabled Windows Firewall. This did not change anything.
I ran a trace route using CMD and found that I am in fact, unable to contact the server.
I live in the United States.
I use a United States IP address.
I am not using a proxy or VPN program.
I have not altered my MAC address nor am I using MAC spoofs.
I have already sent a ticket into support. Hopefully someone here can remedy the situation.
*UPDATE*
I logged into my router and eneabled port forwarding temporarily for ports 6000-65000 and still had no resolve.
Tried again with 1-65000 opened and forwarded. Nothing changed.
Reverted back to defaults on router.

Problem is resolved. Though I am unaware what the fix was.
Last resolve was port forwarding then a reboot.
Also installed hotfix to remove language packs (Which failed again. some hotfix....)
Then rebooted again.
After this, it was fixed.
I don't think it was the hotfix as this was related to Vista-Ultimate language pack installation and removal.
Or maybe the patch servers were down?
I dunno...b:bye(\-/)

Thanks for your very detailed post, I wish more players would do that!
The reason the manual patch must still have a network connection is because the game has to "handshake" with our servers to verify that the files are indeed the correct ones and not fraudulent or malicious in nature.Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?
