Calamaties or other?

I know I'm quite far away from 70, but I just want to know, with the weekend sale and such going on, would calamaties be worth it, when refined to +5 or +6, I'm planning on buying enough d orbs to make at least up to +5, but I just want to know should I use on calamaties, or wait for a later lvl. I will be pking red names when I see them, and bosses when not pking.

There are like 10 other topics on this. yes if you're doing pvp or aoe grinding calamities are the way to go0
-
Calamitys are the way to go at lvl 70 yes, but alot of people tend to keep them after 80 which is stupid, Best bet is to go with Giant Ape Axes(TT80) b/c Attack is higher plus they have Stun ability. Makes Calamities look weak, not to mention if and when you refine them. Lion King Axes arent bad either but Ape Axes have the stun that most axe BM's and barb's look for.be sure to read ahead and see what your getting into. Good Luck.0

For AOE Grinding calamities are still far better than any of the TT80 axes from 80-89.
Btw barbs look for stun, Axe bms don't, unless you have never heard of stunlock then giant ape axes are for you :P0 -

in terms of pvp, calamities still are better than any TT 80 axe, just because of beserker. the fact that bms are all about spike dmg (axe bms at least) should be enuogh to convince u to use calamities rather than TT 80.0

As having no experience in this class... is it really worth the berserk effect? Honestly you guys can do enough damage without them, but it is worth losing hp in the process of more power? Please explain so this veno can understand xD_Jaysun_'s Wife

Since we talking about zerk being worth it or not...
How much damage does a zerk + crit do? 3x normal damage? 4x?I was early taught to work as well as play,

Zerk Crit is 4x.
The HP loss is easily taken care by charms and increased vit. Lose a few hundread HP when you zerk and do 2x damage (4x if crit) to each target. Works for me. I've never died due to zerk hp loss.0 -

Good to know... but what about those bm's I see solo grinding with no charms and the zerk axes x.x? Would it be advisable to get a weapon without zerk for that mean time? (yes I've seen it and watched a bm die the other day cause of it too)._Jaysun_'s Wife

Seems people aren't seperating things out, combining zerk health loss with not getting zerk double damage; putting the pancake on the bunnies head.
If zerk does not hit, it is simply a set of axes that gives more health than TT80 axes with the same exact grade. It is safer to shard and refine Calamities, since the grade is the exact same as TT80 but doesn't get decomped later on.
So you've got a set of axes you can safely refine and shard reasonably high, and sell for later on. They give more health, and for the small cost of 5% health you can deal double damage to all the mobs surrounding you when it triggers. And the 2 seconds saved from getting an extra AoE hit will reduce the damage you receive by much more than the 5% of health lost. Because a decent amount of pull will see you losing more than 5% in that time span, with or without a charm.
In the end, you will take less damage using zerk axes, than if you use TT80 for PvE AoE grinding. This is assuming you have a decent sized group, and this is from a 5 vit build BM who was tanking 15+ mobs during my AoE. If someone can't do more, it's because they are bad. So if zerk kills you faster than non-zerking, it's because they need to re-read some forum posts and learn how to properly grind.Fist are the worst at PvP AND PvE, if you disagree, as I said, take it to PM's or make your own guide. Go here if you want to debate about it. - Lyndura

BTW, has anyone died from zerk yet? I'm thinking if I'm at 4% hp and I zerk, it would kill me?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Why would you be at 4% and still attacking?0 -
The 5% hp loss is from your current HP if i'm not mistaken, so u actually won't die from zerk. But at 4%, mobs is a bigger worry than zerk.0

nope i think you would lose 5% of the 4% of your hp that is left if i am not mistaken? =SI Want To Eat Estasi & Send Her Into Extasy!! b:victory

You sure it wasn't the mobs that killed him?b:sweat
Not saying that I will keep fighting something at 4% hp, let's say there's a very long and boring TT boss who doesn't aoe and I go afk for a day or two and I'm not charmed b:shocked. Has anyone tested that it's 5% of current HP left or 5% max HP?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Well his hp was constantly dropping even though he used sutra and he didn't have that many of the mobs on him. So my guess was the calamities killed him. And the bm I was grinding with at the time said it appeared to be the same. He had no charm and didn't appear to use pots. But when his hp was relatively low, but managable he used sutra and then a second later died. o.o;;_Jaysun_'s Wife

Calamities always take away 5% max hp, however if you don't have enough hp it simply won't activate. It's happened to me before where I've done TT runs with a veno+herc, and I just normal attacked with calamities the entire time. After my hp dropped below 5% beserk stopped activating0 -
TBH the tt80 gold axes are the best for grinding at those levels followed by tt80 lion king axes. For PVP obviously the Calamities are better. I used the XS for 80s cuz the zerk crit was really fun. Now i have the star axes tt90 w/ gloom and love em0
