When to Refine?

Hello I was wondering about what gear level should I start refining? I don't mean high level refines just yet maybe something like +2.

Also this would apply to gems I normally socket my best AtkP gems earned from quests on my weapons but when is it considered more appropriate to start upgrading gems on armor?

I didn't refine any weapons until my HH60 which I made +1 only. I made my HH70 weapon +3. As for armor my gear is only +1 although I plan to +2 it in the near future.


As for shards I use mostly grade 6 shards for my gear.

Depending on how much money you have to blow/what kind of things you get into, Refines won't matter much til 70+. If you have a certain weapon you'd plan on using for a large duration of time (IE: Sinister Shooter/W&C) then refining to 4 or higher as well as adding the highest grade garnets available is also warranted.

For armor,though, it really doesn't matter too much unless you plan on doing a lot of PvP or RB.

Mirages aren't the problem. It's dragon orbs that are the problem.

I agree with Dark. When I hit 70 the first thing I did was start to make money so i could buy my HH70 gear. My plan is to +3 everything. (I have full HH70 now but only +1)
What you have to keep in mind is that the HH weapons and armor from HH70 might all be decomposed for HH80 gear so you need to decide for yourself how much money you're comfortable spending on things that will eventually be lost.

If you want better gear, don't do it like this guy... Don't please don't get hh70 and hh80, its terrible... The stats are horrible and you don't even need them to make hh90. Just wait till you get hh90, other than that camp auction house for good 3star armor and put like g4 stones in it if you want to save money, g5 max. Plus to max of two, but that wouldn't even make a big of enough difference for you to do it. Just don't get hh70 and 80, its terrible gear and a huge waste of money.

I'm with Pnut on this.
70 and 80 TT gear is just ****. Get some molders or 3*. With the BH right now the market should be soon flooded with molds of every kind.
Refine on gear is worth it depending on how much time u plan to use it.
If you fly through lvls it's not worth it. If u play solo/takes a long time to lvl, then it might.
I never had a weapon under +4/2 sockets since Wheel of Fate, but then again I'm doing PvP/PvE TW since the DW launched. I refined my gear in 70s to +2-3 and now in 80s to +4. Some say it's a waste of cash, but for what I do it's more than welcome to have +4.1k HP and +6.2k pdef full buffed as Robe. In time all the extra cash I put in gear comes back from TW pay. I'm not in a race to lvl, I'm actually planning to stick around in the 80s until my TT90 gear/wpn is complete and refined to +5/ +7.

I've not bothered upgrading anything to date, because I level fast and die seldom anyway. Once I get my level 80 gear I might consider adding a few upgrades as I know I'll be keeping these equips for quite some time (I don't expect the road to 90 to go by quickly). But for how I play the game, what I have holds up just fine.

You probably want to take into account how long you're going to be using the stuff you have before spending loads of cash on upgrading it all.

For a veno to upgrande anything else than the wpn is kinda' useless. Some shopping in AH and around West Archos will land u a few molders/3* already refined and sharded and u can live happy with those until 90.

But the same applies to my archer too. Just because I post using my veno's account doesn't mean this is my only character b:chuckle

The only thing I've even considered refining on my archer is the weapon so far - perhaps I'll consider key pieces of the armour at a later date.

What I said about considering how long you will be using the EQ and how much you want to invest in that piece applies to any class. If it's something that you'll be swapping out in only a few levels time, then why invest in upgrading it?

Thank you all for your opinions it is all very much appreciated.
I didn't take in account that there will be more #*/molds on the AH for possibly cheaper due to excess... I'll have to check it out when I log in later. ^^

And in PvP, unless you have a nix you won't be behind the pet. Also Heavy/Robe venos, A venos, and Fox venos. Also if pet dies or loses aggro.
