Do archers need to be in a squad, and what role do they play in a squad if so...
As time passes
I constantly look at the clock
But how does it pass by?

Archers do not to be in squad
if you play a class right, each class can solo any mob they come up against except the bosses of course.
in a squad an archer acts as a damage dealer, dishing out as quick damage to take down the boss/mob fast.

Its a highly vague question dude...

If you're talking about hunting, sharp tooth alone makes an archer valuable. 16% of any boss HP in a single shot (20% if you're sage :P). Other than that, theres the evasion buff, which also gives squad a faster pace in instances, and of course, a very nice average damage dealt.

If you're talking about grinding, its better doing solo. If you're pure dex build, have a high dmg weap for your level and maybe some +% crit +dex gear, you'll rarely get hit from mobs. Just find some air mob of the same or higher lv as your own, open up a esoterica and watch the exp come in.

Against bosses, archers are there just to add damage, and the aforementioned Sharpened Tooth Arrow, though that doesn't come into play until level 50+. Thunder Shock is also useful if you've got a cleric attacking, for the metal resistance debuff. Archers are also good sacrificial lambs for when someone screws up and something comes after the cleric. We run fast, have Stun, Knockback, and Aim Low to try and keep the target away until the tank catches up, and Winged Shell to survive a couple hits.

For grinding, having a meatshield can help reduce the damage you take, but as Absoluth said, usually you won't get hit anyway. Not to mention you'll probably be pulling aggro after the first few shots. Squadding with another archer will result in mobs going down in seconds though.

As everyone else said, we don't need to be in squads for alot of our quests and grinding, but like most other classes we need squads for bosses, fb's, TT's, etc...

The one thing I had to get used to after playing quite a few other mmorpg's as an archer class is that in PWI our role is NOT to be a puller. It's annoying to me because I always enjoyed that role as archer, scout, ranger, etc... in other games, but it's just not something we're really designed to do or expected to do here.
