i am on sactuary so pvp isnt a must(i will at later levels though.) I'm debating the herc or phoenix first, leaning towards phoenix as I want to grind faster and fastest exp seems to point towards grinding with the birdy. Should I put bash on the phoenix or try to get flesh ream. I know everyone says its amazing for pvp but for grinding would bash be better due to smaller cooldown?

Get the nix first u can grind very, very more faster than the Herc.
Nix - Flesh ream
Herc - Bash

Yea im thinking nix, but i wasnt sure if the flesh ream would be pointless when i can kill a monster faster than the cd on bash on magmite. I'd see that time wasted much more I would think on a stronger pet using an almost doubled cd move. Or is that just a sign its time to take on monsters more than just 3-5 levels higher and go for 10ish?0

I can tank mobs 10-15lv+ high than my nix with not too much effort and some bosses
Flesh Ream is better cuz make the enemy bleed adding damage it means killing more faster
Both skills
Bash
A fierce strike inflicting physical damage
Cooldown: 8sec
damage: Rank1: 140%, Rank2: 155%, Rank3: 160%, Rank4: 170%, Rank5: 185%
Lv: 1, 20, 40, 60, 80
Flesh Ream
Bite enemy to inflict physical damage and cause the enemy to bleeding 9sec.
Cooldown: 15sec
damage: Rank1: 120%, Rank2: 140%, Rank3: 160%, Rank4: 180%, Rank5: 200%
Lv: 1, 20, 40, 60, 80[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

-The problem is that the mob should be dead before 9s (full effect) and the next one before the cooldown. Bash seems the wiser choice for pve.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -
I'd tend to agree. You can maximize your nix's damage in PvE by giving him Bash, as most mobs are dead before 9 seconds are up.
The more common choice if you plan to PvP at all is Flesh Ream though.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Yep, thats exactly what i was wondering since most mobs seem to die faster than that grinding unless i feel like fighting high level. Then it usually ends quickly because i notice the exp:time ratio is not worthwhile. I think I may try and see how fast it kills on its own at my level and decide if bash would better suit it or flesh ream. Although I know high level flesh ream for pvp utility. I love being a strategist and large scale pvp, but I hate how it makes me go through things like this along the way. Its WoW n FFxi all over again.0

I would NOT recommend getting the phoenix first, especially for grinding. I ended up getting the phoenix first bc i PvP alot. In the lower levels through your 70's the herc is by far more helpful than a nix.
I had the same mentality when getting my nix. I thought it's awesome at killing people and the added benefits of killing the mobs faster(highest DDS pet in the game), ill level faster (bc of how uberfast ill kill mobs), get coins faster(same), where can you go wrong!? While the nix will definately kill mobs faster, Everyone forgets to mention the HUGE problem with flying pets and grinding.
They get stuck on the slightest incline! Hell even on flat ground they will get stuck sometimes. So there you are attacking a mob by yourself bc you cant get your nix to attack, wasting your charm. Trying to tell your pet to follow you as you jump in the air so then you can tell the nix to attack while it is in the air and wont get stuck... HUGE HASSLE
The herc is the second strongest DDS pet in the game AND it doesnt get stuck AND you can take it into instances AND tank bosses! The ONLY disadvantage to getting a herc first is you cant take it in the air. So no air mob grinding (admittedly, air mob grinding is the best type of grinding IMO for us venos)
My primary concern was PvP when choosing between the herc and nix. Looking back on it now, despite the herc not being the first choice for pvp, i would have got the herc.0 -
If you just want it for PvE go Bash, not only will it recycle faster, but Flesh Ream seems to be bugged in PvE giving it reduced damage, and on top of that you should only be getting one or maybe two ticks of Flesh Ream damage before the mob dies. The end result is that FR is quite a bit less damage than Bash in PvE.0

Attack from the air, or use it on air mobs. The herc is the second strongest DDS pet in the game
It isn't even close.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -

You can kill air mobs for the exp bonus, which is what... 50%? The nix has no disadvantage to getting stuck then. So you end up getting that bonus on top of the nix's already high dps. It results in a very high exp rate.
Lets take an ingame example. At 67 with a herc I was killing Acephalic Riders at about 30 seconds each (including time between kills), recently I got a nix (yay pet sale, finally got mine, plus a few other peoples) and have been leveling it. It's currently 61 with me at 77. I went to kill Spinewraiths for a friend of mine for that kill 70 quest. I was killing one every 15 seconds or so including downtime (about 4 seconds to kill, 11 seconds to find the next mob), testing a few more mobs the nix was able to kill on it's own about every 15 seconds. So a 67 killing those could conceivably kill them including downtime every 20 seconds or so. That would mean it's getting a 50% exp boost for air, and killing 33% faster, that's 99.5% faster than killing with a herc.
A herc is nice and all, but it's not even close to what a nix can put out, even if it were in second place (which it's not, even a magmite can outdps a herc, excluding reflect) it's a very large gap to that top spot.0
