We know it's late, and we hope the limited time will provide more of a challenge to everyone!

Once again we are looking for aspiring artistes with a flair for the creative, the expressive, the humorous and a knack for designing cool desktop wallpaper calendar designs!

If you're up to the task then step up the plate, send in your design(s) and take part in Round #6 of our Calendar Design Contest for the month of August. For this round the gloves come off and its time to celebrate the splendor of Summer in its full, unadulterated glory!

As an added challenge, all designs will be due by Wednesday, August 5th!

EDIT: post links updated, calendar kit is now available!

To participate, here’s what you need to do:

1) Begin by downloading our calendar kit for August 2009 HERE. More stock images will be made avaliable next Tuesday!

2) Load the background template into the image manipulation software of your choice and jazz up the template in any manner you like. Examples include: using screen captures, real life photos of yourself (keep it clean!), images found on our website, self created elements, etc. - Just be creative! The stock images included in the calendar kit are a great place to start but feel free to find other sources of inspiration!

In fact, if you're bold enough you aren't even required to use our provided image background. All that is required is that your designs include a calendar grid for the month of August 2009 along with the PWI logo and/or website URL. Keep in mind that judges are usually partial toward designs that encompass the 'theme' of the month - in this case warm hues that conjure up the approach of Summer and other such related imagery will certainly earn you a point or two of added kudos.

3) When you feel that your calendar is up to par, email your image file to: pwi-events@perfectworldinc.com. MULTIPLE submissions are allowed so don’t be afraid to take risks!

In your email, please include your in-game character name and server in order to receive your prize should you win. "Hmm, what's this about prizes? you say...

4) The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, August 5th at 6:00 P.M. Pacific time. All submissions will be reviewed by representatives from the Community, Product and Design teams here at Perfect World Entertainment, and winners will be announced later that week!

The Top 5 Designs (based on criteria such as artistic merit, creativity, humor, expressions, etc.) will be featured on our website and made available for all users to download. These winners will receive an unreleased flying mount!

Rules:

- Send your Calendar design to pwi-events@perfectworldinc.com by 6:00 P.M. (pacific time) on Wednesday, August 5th.

- Do not resize the dimensions of the background template (we need it to fit on standard monitor sizes!).

- Designs must incorporate a calendar grid for the month of August, along with the PWI logo and/or the URL of our website.

- Files MUST be in .jpg, .gif or bitmap (.bmp), .png only. But please don't send in SUPER HUGE images, 15Mb or smaller is preferred

- Do not use characters, locations, or objects from other intellectual properties, (Perfect World elements only!).

- Please keep your designs in good taste. Submissions that are deemed objectionable will be rejected for consideration.

    Before anyone asks:

-We'll have some more stock images uploaded next week when the official news post goes up.

-Allow me to personally apologize for the short contest duration, hopefully it will motivate us all to work that much harder

-Yes, the only file currently available is our August calendar example.

Emerging from this darkness takes more then courage, it takes faith in ones own mind and more importantly in ones own heart. Is there any way that we can get some sort of reply when we submit the calendar to confirm that it was received correctly? I'm not sure how challenging that would be for you guys, but I'm always paranoid about things like that.

    Eeeeks! That's really short!
Not sure if I will be able to do a whole new design in such a short time, as 3D is all that I can do more or less...

    But I'll try...

Wait Spoons. That's the same theme for June and the same saying. Is this another summer contest or something reflecting fall?

What do you mean by "calendar grid"? The calendar date setup in the example is fine, right?

I've drawn mine already, hope the theme doesn't change. Good luck all :D

Also, I used clipart/images from Google images >.> (1, 2, and 3). Is that okay?

    What about stock photos?

that's a bit difficult, if you type the e-mail right it went to the right place b:chuckle

Use your own judgment, it's still summer until September in my book, I pretty much give you free reign as long as it sticks within a general summer theme, definitely doesn't have to be exactly the same as the last contest.

    RE: Image size:

It's still a calendar that you can use as a background, so fit it to a computer screen, mind the file SIZE limit though, have mercy on my inbox!

    Hi Eatwithspoon,

Like Byno, I am also concerned about my file being received by you guys. You said
if you type the e-mail right it went to the right place

you see back in June my submission was never received by you guys, and it was only after the contest has ended that I found this out (confirmed by Dvorak). I doubled check my email prior before sending it, and doubled checked it again after finding out you guys never received it, and I did typed in the correct email.

I understand to give feedback for every submission would be a toll to your resources, so how about a compromise? If we post our entry here AND send it via email, and if you guys do not received it in email, can you at least accept the posting here as a valid entry for the contest? I am talking about a posting either with the proper dimension and/or a link to the file with the proper dimension.

You can send me a PM with a screenshot of your sent mail, or just PM me your e-mail address and I can check.

The problem is, I don't have time to check 100+ e-mails when for the most part they all get received without issue.

Awesome... I have my first entry almost done... waiting on that calendar asset kit to go up because I really like those cute little wave designs on the current jpg that is linked but I'm a bit too lazy to crop them out. b:surrender I'm hoping they come a nice seperate layer in the psd that you guys always provide.

In anycase... looking forward to seeing all the entries and I wish everyone the best of luck!

ah, those are things that we'll be putting out this week. Sorry for the lateness, but most people don't use anything other than the calendar grid, which is just the calendar part that can be put into any picture, and we enjoy original calendar concepts. Anything you think of yourself is okay as long as it follows the theme

Serafimo, iStockPhoto watermarks its stuff for a reason. They want you to pay royalties for actually using it, whereupon you get access to the non-watermarked version.
I don't know what PWI's policy is regarding watermarked/copyright imagery, but I'll bet iSP would have a problem with it.

On the 'If you type the e-mail right it went to the right place':
In the first post with the announcment and rules etc, there are 2 emails posted: pwi-events@perfectworldinc.com and events@perfectworldinc.com (= without pwi-). I mailed to the first adress, but i'm not sure which one is the correct one.
