Upgrading/Imbuing

When is a good time to start upgrading and imbuing equipment? I know it's a waste of money at lower levels, so I'm just wondering when it starts to pay off.

    At low levels I just sharded with whatever I found, it's not really needed.

    Started +1'ing after HH60 (lvl 60), g5 shards
    Started +2 after HH70 (lvl 70), g5-g6 shards
    Started +3'ing, +4'ing after lvl 80, g6-g7 shards
    Going to +5 at HH90, g5-g7 shards.
