Heavy - LA - Arcane Question

Quick question for all you Venos out there.

I have read up on most of the guides available and it seems that LA or Arcane with Vit is the way to lvl up. I have chosen the arcane route so far and it has been great for me but now I am starting to die to random pathing mobs I catch aggro from. It's mostly due to physical dmg and it usually happens in 2-3 rounds of melee or archer arrows.

In theory if you keep mag at 3x lvl for the latest weapon for all 3 builds your magic attack and mana should be relativly the same. So I am looking at either having more hp (dying in 6 hits instead of 3) having mid defense (Light Armor) or high defense and extra Physical Atk for magic resist mobs (Heavy).

I am looking to change to heavy armor but I don't want to totally gimp my ability to lvl up in a decent time frame. If I do go heavy I won't worry about keeping the best up-to-date armor until later on, i'll wear armor 10 lvls lower then myself or whatever for the time being.

I messed around with the 3 builds with comparable equipment on a character simulator and this is what i got for lvl 30...

Full Arcane -
(my current build)
Hp-846 ~ Mp-2552 ~ Pdef-442 ~ Patk-288 ~ Matk-1029

Arcane - Hp-1422 ~ Mp-1976 ~ Pdef-478 ~ Patk-288 ~ Matk-822

----LA - Hp-870 ~ Mp-1976 ~ Pdef-797 ~ Patk-315 ~ Matk-822

Heavy - Hp-870 ~ Mp-1976 ~ Pdef-1073 ~ Patk-350 ~ Matk-822

From the looks of it Heavy and pure Arcane are the most damaging out of the 4, heavy using damage reduction to stay alive and arcane using a larger hp pool. I didn't worry about magic resists because I haven't had any problems with spell casting mobs yet and all these builds can wear the same magic armor if need be.

I guess my question is: will switching to a heavy build totally gimp me out lvling up? It looks alright on paper but am I missing something?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated b:victory

Here's where pet management and watching surrounding mobs comes into play. Generally, if a mob spawns that will aggro, there is usually a delay between it spawning and it aggroing such that if you move out of it's aggro radius it won't aggro. If you see a mob pathing close to you, move, and if it aggros, try to run towards your pet while targeting the mob, and having your pet attack the mob to pull aggro off of you. Sometimes it helps to position yourself such that there isn't going to be mobs behind you, or randomly pathing into you.

I like low HP arcane. Garnet shards, and pdef/vit ornaments as / when needed. There are multiple things you can do in addition to what OMGLAZERZ wrote. Spark Eruption - 2 seconds of invincibility then Kill quick power, bramble hood -15 seconds of 75% less damage + return some damage, Feral Concentration - damage immunity for 10 seconds, Lucky Scarabdamag + chance to stun for a while, then there's all the genie spells, pots, and charms.

If I wanted to play more laid back, I suppose I'd consider the other builds.

Oh, we aren't as laid back as you might think. I'm quite fond of casting at something my pet is on, and getting something spawning on me. The adrenaline rush I get as I do an immediate switch to Fox Form and engage the new foe is quite exhilarating.

She's level 28, and has none of that. I can do some of that, and due to my build can put the hurt on mobs, but at level 28? It was more watching my surroundings, and I still rarely have enough to spark for that reason due to ST and using sparks to drop Increased Life mobs faster.

Hehe, cool. I forgot about the extra defense in fox form. I mostly switch to it for the increased mag defense mobs. Nice to hear how other veno's can get the job done in different ways.

My advice, dont try to go HA before level 80. You'll gimp your damage/healing power early levels if you do IMO.
