Shrill/Shriek

My frog has the Shriek Skill that interrupts channeling. I thought this might be a good skill to put on my sawfly in the 4th slot (alongside bash, toxic mist and flesh ream)

My questions are:

1) I have seen the skill Shrill for sale. Is this teh same as Shriek and just mis-named for some reason? (I hate how the description on scrolls is "teaches pet Shrill". I mean how useless is that?? lol)

2) Is it worth while to, or a good idea, to put the disrupt channeling skill on the sawfly or is there a better skill to put in that slot, like a debuff? I am not looking for the standard PvP answer here of get a pheonix as I don't think I'll be able to afford one until much much later (I play a mp charm sucking cleric and an hp charm sucking barb as my alts lol)

The skill works better for support /debuff type pets, sawfly should have the mobs killed before it matters.

Timing is a big issue on this skill, do you actually find it useful on the frog?

    I'd prefer Tough myself.

I guess I meant more from a PvP perspective as opposed to PvE. I would agree PvE timing is not worth it, but I can imagine if you see a mage or cleric throw up a spark then you know what's coming next so if you do a quick cast of Shriek to disrupt the following spell it might save your ****. Of course this is my theory and I was hoping to get people's ideas on it.

    Thanks

    1. Correct, Shrill and Shriek are the same skill.

    2. I can't imagine Shriek would be terribly useful on a flying pet. While I can understand the feeling that it would be useful, I think that in reality you should consider the four following scenarios:

    - PVE: Flying targets will die quickly anyways. Shriek will just draw that out by making it miss a melee round.
    - PVP vs. non-caster: Useless
    - PVP vs. caster: They're probably going to die to Flesh Ream before it matters, and timing of the skill will prove troublesome anyways.
    - PVP and get blindsided by a caster: Obviously not of use if your pet isnt near them.

Personally, I'd say that if you can find it cheap enough (ie. on auction), Slow would probably be more useful than Shriek. Pounce would obviously be even better yet, but as it will demand a premium you may was well reserve the money for a Phoenix fund.

By the time you spent enough for pounce (unless you got very lucky) and upgraded all the skills on your sawfly, you may as well have bought a nix which comes with it, claw and blessing of the pack. A nix is well worth the cost and isn't unreasonable considering the total cost of skills for other pets. If you're pvp'ing, won't a Nix pay for itself by saving you GA's?

As further explanation, the herc and other phoenix skills (Reflect, Strong, Protect, Claw, Blessing) are a 5% drop from the chests in Dragon Temple. Pounce is a 1% drop, so it'll be considerably more expensive than the others which typically run 2-5 mil.

Edit: Link to the relevant DT chest which gives the rare pet scrolls. There are other types of chests in there. Pounce is "Boo-boo scroll".

Didn't know that! -Good stuff to know! I search long and hard for rare pet skills. Someone answered my wc about them once and told me that Blessing of the Pack was extremely rare, that only 2 others were on the server and they were used on Hercs. They apparently had one and claimed it was worth 40m! It ended in a case of harassment that went reported. People should be aware of people like that. So far I've picked up 2 reflects for 5m ea, claw for 7m, strong and protect for 5m ea, and sacrifice for 15m (crazy!). Sacrifice appears a total waste unless used for pvp. -Would have been nice to have better descriptions before I bought it. Now I can refer to this site at least: http://www.ecatomb.net/pwi/petskill.php Anyway, my plumpfish cost about the same as a herc (same buffs), but at least I can feed it water and don't have to spend days leveling it.

    I'm a freaking HA/Arcane veno.

    Cost is irrelevant to me.

But thx for not answering the question.

Thanks to some for replies. As always though it never ceases to amaze me that despite the fact someone says "Please off suggestions other then use Pheonix/Herc" that is always the answer given. Don't get me wrong. I know they are the best. No questions asked. However not all can or will be able to afford them. Source of Force/Feathers go for 3500 on HL each. For the math whizzes that's roughly 35 million. Across 2 servers, 6 combined characters and playing since closed beta I have not even come close to having this much disposable income (although admittedly my highest character is only lvl 69) So if pounce is 900k and each level up is 100k so 400k total to get lvl 5.That's 130,000 for just that one skill. Even if all 4 skill slots needed to be purchased anew and all cost the same then that's still only 520,000. Big difference from 35 million.
