How good are wizards

how long til wizards start getting good? or are they only that great at 9x when they're like gods


i was thinking of rerolling wiz cuz 9x archers say we got screwed over with the accuracy thing, i mean they have 99% hit rate but can miss 5 times in a row and our base damage sucks


i might keep going archer because i already have all lvl 3 manufacture skills but i still wanna hear from other wizards

    It depends on how you play them. If you suck as mage classes you won't have fun.

    every single class says their own class sucks at 9x because other classes get an advantage over them.

    in truth, every class is pretty much equal at 90. 99 is a different story.

    the few that get to 99 should have an advantage, don't they?
    every class is fun and fits a certain type of player.
    there is no "best class" or "worst class", every single one of them have strong points and weak points. The difference is made by the player behind the char and how well he can take advantage of the class strong points to overcome its weaknesses.

    How long until it's fun? Right away.

    How long until we're good? Right away if we're paying attention to how we play and level our skills.

    How long until we PWN? I've heard we can start being truly troublesome to others around 6x and outright feared by 9x. Most wizards, and players in general, stay under cover until 6x/9x anyway.

    I've played everything but Archer, and so far I have the most fun with Wizard. The gameplay is among the smoothest and our "weaknesses" have easy workarounds, so it's actually far more balanced than most people claim. We deal high damage, which can be even more devastating when we pick the element the mob or player is weakest in.

    The Channeling+Cast time takes a little while but we have such a wide range of attacks that we can go through them and then back to the first one without interrupting our attack flow. (Playing my melee characters, I have to stop and wait for cooldown time to cycle through, AND it takes more attacks and time to kill things!) And when you get Sutra you can throw off about three attacks with now waiting time at all. <3

    We have low HP but can take care of that by using Life Powder for faster HP regen, cast Stone Barrier to increase our Physical Defense, and when survivability is important go with Light Armor to get even more Physical Defense. I have a couple extra points in Vit which actually gives me more HP than a standard build Archer 15 levels above me O.O

    So: Magic Damage Dealing, Lots of Skill Options, great at PvE, an asset in Team PvP and TW, plus tanking Magic bosses and doing DD in dungeons and Rebirth (if LA). Only real shortcoming is duels and 1v1 PvP ^x^;

    And it's funnnnnn.

    *Edit PS:* By the way, Archer and Cleric basically have the same HP bar as Wizards. So we're all squishy compared to the High HP Blademasters and Highest HP Barbarians. Venomancers are somewhere around the same HP as us too but come equipped with their own Tank so it factors less XD

    How long until it's fun? Right away.

    Only real shortcoming is duels and 1v1 PvP ^x^;

    1v1 is perfectly fine if you pick your battles and kite like a ***** vs melee classes, use shrink and FoW correctly, just don't expect miracles vs vit barbs with XS

    I'm not too interested in spending half an hour or more trying to carve up a Tiger for dinner XD And I'm hoping to prove the "1v1 Wiz Sucks" mentality wrong, and you right, once I figure out WTF I'm doing with what I have. I haven't been in the PvP levels long enough to have a clue yet :) Long enough to die 2.5 times (.5 was Archer + Mob) and escape two times but that's about it XD

    I've delayed myself by developing a fascination for creating a workable High Dex bow-supplement Barb though. At the rate he's leveling he'll probably pass this character (my main) soon. o0;

    Archers get 26 hp per level.
    13 hp per vitality point.
    More hp refined from Light armor.

    Venomancers get 24 hp per level.
    12 hp per vitality point.

    And you're saying they have the same hp as wizards?
    We get 20 hp per level, 10 hp per vitality.

    Clerics are as much viable as a vitality build as a full magic build, (in fact many argue they're much better as a vitality build), and thus gets more hp while still maintaining their usefulness. Us? If we go vit build, our damage is too low as a dd, and the extra hp doesn't help us.

    Time to rephrase!

    For me playing a wizard actually stopped to be fun somewhere between lvl 70 - 80. But I had some hope for some fun later (some reward for the effort), so I got to 80+. Then I lost hope for enough fun to justify going through that madness and at 83 I got sick of it.

    But I'm special. The whiner.

    I don't like PvP. I'm aware of the total uselessness of this class as a squad member and I don't have friends on the server, who would overlook it's flaws for the time spent together.

    Didn't know those were the exact numbers. My apologies, I hadn't had access to my game and underestimated my own Vit - I have more HP than Archers 15 levels above me and didn't realize I had as many vit points as I do. I thought I was near the minimum but I'm not.

    Anyway an extra vit point here and there for a Wizard apparently DOES do something XD

    actually you don't, my lvl 47 archer that i said had 1.1k hp actually had 1.3k

    even like that i don't know why, my lvl 32 archer already has 1.1k

    Level 1-29 : No pvp
    Level 30-50 : 99/100
    Level 51-75 : 98/100
    Level 76-99 : 97/100
    100-105 : 96/100


    While it is true phoenixes get weaker as levels go up...going from a 100 megaton yield nuclear bomb to a 96 megaton yield bomb wont make much difference trying to survive it as a human >.>

    Tbh mages do fine if you are willing to play them like mages. They aren't tanks, they aren't fast, they aren't the best crowd control, they're not critical freaks.. mages are one thing, and one thing only -- damage. As such, you must use your skills to survive so that you can do the one thing you do best -- deal damage.

    The only real problem mages have imo is that there are certain level ranges where you simply cannot deal enough burst damage in the 10 seconds before a high HP person's charm ticks while kiting around. They're geared more towards group PvP and/or ganking during these levels moreso than the other levels, but perform best at both throughout the entirety of the game as well.

    Things like sutra, undine, level 11 books, and triple spark all but obliterate that problem though.
