Bosses with Buddies

OK so I found out with Rend Razorjaw that you could at least pull his 2 escorts off him using normal pet luring...is that the case with all Bosses that have attendants? Or only certain ones?

I have Bolden Goldwing and Haggist Geezlot on my quest list and both have bodyguards. Unlike Rend in the dungeon, I've seen references to outdoor bosses literally chasing people across the map outside. So...rather than experiment and find out mortally, I thought I'd ask, if boss attendants can be lured off.

So far I haven't found anything that's aggro linked (although at my level, my sample size is low) which certainly makes it a puller's paradise.

Yes, this is why venos even get squads unless they're tanking with a herc. Send pet in, let it score a hit, desummon, resummon (don't EVER click the follow button after a hit has been made when luring against groups).

Just be careful about distance when luring. If you get too far away from your pet, or what your pet is trying to attack, it'll pop back to you, and everything that was going to be attacking your pet will still be after it.

Once a target has been hit by your pet, agro will transfer to you after desummoning, so make sure you tell your pet to attack as soon as it is summoned again. You can, of course pull with 1, and tank with another, and this method is advised for many instances where pulling is needed.

Although you can pull with anything, the better pets to pull with is a pet with speed above 7 or 8 m/s or one with a ranged normal attack, like cactopod* (5) and eldergoth marksman** (40 something).

*tamed outside etherblade/plume, ranged attack requires skill to be deselected and not used. A level 30 cactopod has enough accuracy to pull level 100+ stuff at wild status (80% stat), so makes a good disposable puller for some of those bosses that just obliterate any pet sent to them (clone boss).

**Same deal as cactopod, needs to have skill turned off to use ranged attack. Has a higher tamed level, but also works as a decent backup tank so leveling it is more useful.

yeah I found out about the too far away thing in Den of Rabid Wolves, backed up too far and suddenly pet was at me and everything running to me. Luckily unsummoned before they were in aggro range and they all ran back (whew.)

Been pulling since the 90s in Everquest as an Iksar Monk, every game the aggro and pull mechanics is a little different, just takes getting used to the rules of whatever particular one you happen to be in.

(I kinda miss feign death though. Never would have predicted a necro-style pet-class puller. It's....different.)

Was pulling with pets and unsummoning really an intended game mechanic? Or happy accident? Feels vaguely exploitish. I mean, clearly it's an accepted tactic, but it's hard for me to picture the designers of the game sitting around and saying "so yeah to pull, the veno sends a pet, then puts the pet away, it'll be awesome!"
