Disclaimer: I don't claim to know everything there is to know about pigments/dyes and relating fashion info. There is a chance that I may have gotten something wrong somewhere.
Also, I'd like to thank the random contributors of the questions presented – there are far too many of you to list here, but suffice to say, if you've posted a question somewhere in the forums concerning dyes, the question probably made it into this in some way, shape, or form. This Q&A would not have been possible without you all, and you know who you are
Should you have any more questions regarding dyes and relating fashion info that's not listed here, you can either reply to thread or PM me through the forums. If you can't understand something or if its not clear, please let me know and I will try to clarify. This Q&A will be updated with each non-redundant question I get. ^^

So, you've gotten your awesome new bikini or the rocking chain pants you've been drooling over since forever, congratz But...but....this horrible, ugly yellow clashes with with my venomancer's bright green eyes! And what self-respecting warrior in their right mind would wear PINK chain pants? How do I fix this?!
Q:Where do I get dyes?
Dyes (or pigments, whatever you want to call them) can be brought from the Boutique (Alt+O) in game, or from other characters through catshops for in-game coin.
Q: Can I craft dyes, like I can craft armor/weapons/ornaments?
No. Sorry, would be nice, but no. See the “Suggestions” part of the forum and submit the idea like many before you if it'll make your feel better.
Q: What's the difference between “Random Color Packs” and “Hot Color Packs”?
Random Color Packs come as a set of ten “random pigments.” Unlike the pretty colored bottles you may find in catshops, “random pigments” come in a multicolored bottle, and is not fixed, nor named. Until use, you are essentially leaving color up to the roulette board – its chance what color you get, much like it was when you got it out of the boutique.
Hot Color Packs give you ONE pigment for your cash. However, there is a good (usually) chance of getting one of the pretty colored bottles full of a fixed, named color pigment from the Hot Color Pack (here), though there is also a very good chance at receiving the “random pigment” mentioned above.
Q: Can I choose the color I get from the “Hot Color Pack”?
Nope. Whatever fixed, named color you get is completely randomized. Please note that some colors, like white and black, are rarer then others.
Q: Okay, got all that...now where do I go to dye my l337 pixelated clothes?
In each of the 5 major cities, there's an NPC known as “Seamstress _____” Talk to her, and the rest should be rather self explanatory...I hope.
Q: My awesome new bikini top requires X amount of dye....wait, what?
Each piece of clothing requires a certain amount of pigment – either X amount of “random pigment” or X amount of the SAME named pigment
Q: Can I combine “random pigments” and these pretty fixed color bottles?
For a single item of clothing (ie, chain pants), no, you cannot combine “random pigments” with named pigments. However, you are perfectly within game capabilities to use X amount of random pigments on your chain shirt to get the desired color, then X amount of fixed pigments to dye your nice chain pants.
Q: Is color truly random, or does each “random pigment” have a named pigment?
“Random pigments” can give you the exact same color as a fixed named pigment when used. However, there's a wide variety of colors (see here) that you can get only through using “random pigments.” The chance of the latter is actually better, I think.
Q: My bikini came out this pretty yellow...if I dyed it red, would it be orange?
Nope. Colors don't mix, period. If you dyed something to red, it would be red, and show no signs of its former color.
Q: This shirt requires two pigments. Can I take one blue pigment and one yellow pigment and make it green?
Again, no. It's impossible to mix colors in a single article of clothing, in any which way, shape, or form.
Q: Are the pretty fixed color bottles reusable? They cost so much, for all that coin, I should be able to use it at least a few times to dye, right?
Unfortunately, no. They are considered “consumable” by this game's standards, and once you use one, you lose it. For good.
Q: When you buy a pigment and use it, does it give you a randomly generated amount of pigments, since a lot of clothes seem to use more than one?
Each pigment gives you one use, and one use only. However, this is an interesting suggestion that you might want to submit to the devs...
Q: Ew, I hate the color I got – can I just go back to my old one? Is there an undo button somewhere?
The only way to undo a color is to dye it again...and again...and again... Until you get the one you like, at least ^^;
Q: There are a few cool fashions that have multiple colors (bohemian skirt, plume set, camo pants, ect.)...do I have to dye each color separately, or what?
Simply put, no, you don't have to dye each color separately. Slightly more complicated, certain fashions with the ability to be dyed come with fixed colors – the bohemian skirt will always have a bit of orange in it, and the plume set will always fade to that pretty yellow. Your hideously blue camo pants won't need brown, green, light green, and yellow pigments to make them green camo, just a simple green dye will do the trick. Veranda tops will always have mostly white in them, with color shown off on the shoulders and sides.
Q: I spent hundreds of thousands of coins buying all the white dyes for my Strider's Vestment, but its not white! WTF is going on?
White clothing has a tendency to not show up as white...however, the same also allies to other colors as well. Different pieces of clothing tend to show up as slightly different colors, even if they're dyed exactly the same using fixed pigments. I have no idea why this is, however, it seems to be most suffered using white pigment – the strider's vestment, hemsley overcoat, and bohemian skirt all suffer discoloration when dyed white.
Q: Do clothes come pre-dyed, and wearable, or do I have to dye them first?
Nope, you can wear them fresh out of the boutique.
Q: Do I get to chose the color of my fashion before I buy it?
It's completely and utterly random what color you will get when you buy an article of fashion from the boutique. You may choose the color of your clothing before you buy from the auction house or from other players using in-game coin, however.
NOTE: Some articles of fashion come in a “fixed color.” You can spend all the coin you want trying to dye them, but the appearance will never change, only the little color boxes in the description.

I seem to be having troubles with fixed color fashion items.
I know I can't dye said items, but I am seeing them as colors that I shouldn't be. Is this a glitch? Does this happen or has happened to anyone else? Perhaps a setting I may have altered in game???"I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me." - Hunter S. Thompson0
