Restricted area around NPCs?

...
Different day - same problem. Starting the game, logging in, trying to accept the World- and CS-quests - but where the heck is the NPC? All I see is an area packed with players, kittie-shops, mounts, birds, swords, wings and pets where the NPC should be. Nearly no chance to klick onto Li Mengpai or the Auctioneer in Archo West. A mass of people that makes the WalMart-deep-freeze-turkey department on the eve before thanksgiving look deserted.

Yes, I know, you like it to show off with your brand new ultra-pimped-out super-expensive giga-items. I'm fine with that...

I also am aware of the fact, that there is a SHIFT-button on my keyboard, making it possible to hit the NPC through all these thousands of dollars.

But how do I aim on a person I don't see? More then once I had to hover the mouse for some time around the area where I reckonned the quest giver should be and hoping, that it would change into the talking-symbol before the cursor ran over the NPC.

I would suggest a [random number between 5 and 15]-ft restricted area around NPCs where it is not possible to step, fly, land, drop, fight or teleport into - so that one at least can see, where the NPC is located.

Greetings
PB

I agree with you on this, I even made a thread about it a short time ago http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=263461 but it got very few posts so didn't bother to keep up with it.

But yes a Buffer Zone around NPC's would be great help, ok yes we have the Shift Key function with which to click on the NPC, but would it not be so much easier if you could just click on the NPC or is it just too hard for players to be considerate of others.
I mean, when your on your Mounts, do you really need to stand right over the NPC? Answer to that if Big Deffinate NO, i recently got a land mount and clicked an NPC to chat to them just to see how close i would get on my mount, and hey guess what, there was still room to see the NPC. But still, i think it would better that there was still a bit more room there, the worst offenders though i think are the flying mounts, they fly over and obscure the NPC's, these types, i think should have to land to be able to speak to the NPC's.
Also is it really necessary to set up your cat shops on top of and around NPC's?

That's what he said he's been doing, but some times there's just so much crowding it can take a while to find them, and on an old system it can be even worse. I agree, there should be some kind of buffer zone around the major npcs like the banker, hou jensi and others.

Here is the Best fix that PWI can do if they even give a cr4p about this..

All players will be dismounted after 20 sec within 5 meter of any npc, regardless what you are doing.
All players cant not enter the radius of 1 meter of any npc.

20 sec next to npc is long enough for you to do what you need, can hand in quest and leave.
unless you like to sit there click over and over and over read the dialogue.
then you dont need to be mounted.

if you like to be mount all the time dont sit your 4zz next to npc for next hour or two / ten.

    Just as simple as that.

Here's a simple solution to fix not being able to see the NPC through the crowd:

Go to your system settings. Click the UI tab. For you proxy visuals, turn the "Distance" down completely.
Now at the top of your screen there are a few of buttons you can use. One is the "Best Performance" button, the other turns on/off proxy visuals, and another turns mob markers on/off your mini-map. Click the one for the proxy visuals (it says "Show/Hide players outside the range limit") whenever you need to see the NPC.
As long as you aren't sitting in the same mass of people you are complaining about and away from the NPC just a bit, everyone will be invisible. As long as you don't change those settings again, all it takes now is one click to clear your way. b:bye

While the best perofomance idea seems good - you need to ensure that it is not engaged when you log out - or those settings become your default.

Oh and make sure you dont crash or DC either - basically its not a good idea at all.

I like the idea of dismounting after a certain time but these people clearly have not done crazy stone after Hou Jenhsi when you need to combine larger quantities then fly.

I think a simpler idle KB/mouse test would be sufficient.

I also think Shops should not be able to be activated close to NPC's - I hate ity when they are over the NPC so you cannot see the flags.

Even better how about a NO SHOPS button. I love them when I want one - the rest of the time they are just plain annoying.

Shift-clicking ignores all players and catshops so that you can only click on NPCs or land.
If you disregard what I say because of who I am or because of the contents of what I said, you are a fool.

    > I also am aware of the fact, that there is a SHIFT-button on my keyboard

As the author said - Yes there is a Shift Click but it is a poor solution at best. Every Auctioneer has a mailbox nearby and many of the animals are big enough to cover both. The Shift-Click does not tell you which you have found till after you have selected.

There are some good alternatives here in this thread also.

I especially dislike the cat shops planted all over the NPC's - It is just deliberately annoying.

I'd love to be able to turn the cats off and walk about west Arch without a massive slowdown. When I want to go shopping - I'll choose to.

Unmounting if the user is idle (great idea), then 60 secs later "lie down" - problem solved

    Restricted Zone - Yes

Unmount if idle too long - Yes

Turn off Cat Shops - **YES**

You are agreeing with someone that posted that suggestion one year and two months ago.

A restricted area around NPC's? I think many catshops set up in the center of west archo will be very upset when that event NPC shows up.

Another suggestion: Players who stand in West Arch or anywhere else in PWI idle all day and night should be automatically LOGGED OFF. Thus will clear up traffic on the servers and make easier for players to move around.

No. Players have every right to stay afk 24/7. The majority of the players here just wish they'd do the catshop thing somewhere else.

The players who are catshoping dont need to clog up one area or areas, it should be moved elsewhere, that I agree with. But I talking about other players who are AFK for long periods of time doing nothing in-game. Where does it say players have that "right" to stay AFK for 24/7? it's a choice not a right?

I say "right" because I'm not sure how else to word it. Is it wrong/against the rules for someone to log on and stay afk until the next maintnence? No. Does it cause problems for others? No. Does 10000 people doing this in one place cause trouble? Yes. If it's just some random afk player, there's no issue even if they decide to stay afk until maintnence. That is the point I was trying to make. So people should be able to stay in catshop mode 24/7 if they wish. They should just do it in a place where it won't cause problems, like a separate instance. If people want to buy, they will go there.
