Yay or Nay on Genies?

I'm just curious to everyone's view points on the genies that have just been released.

Personally, in my opinion (and please no flaming) I think they are more suited for the PVP servers and people how pvp/pk/tw more then anything. They don't seem to hold much when it comes to mobs and pve game play but with dueling/pking and on the PVP servers they do a world of good. b:pleased

Anyway, whats your opinion on them?

They are there for the soul purpose of this game, which is PvP.

When it comes down to it? What's the main goal in the game? Territory/PvP.

I don't believe PvE is a factor in this game besides getting gear to PvP with.

So really, I think they fit in just perfect.

    Flame on.

To be perfectly honest, useless in pve, theres nothing a genie can offer me at lvl 86 that i can't already do with pots and at a much cheaper rate.

Definitley more geared towards pvp,and ofcourse loosening our grips on our wallets/purses.

    Mmm, I'm so-so.

They seem to be made to fix many balance issues that have appeared, as all of the stat prevention/healing abilities appear available to all classes (correct me if I'm wrong). This prevents the problems with flesh ream's bleed (namely on the phoenix), a blademaster's stun-chaining, and cleric sleeping. Choosing these abilities can nullify a broad range of skills.

They also have various abilities that are nifty, although their damage abilities are pretty much useless altogether (though people should remember that these skills are being used in conjunction with your own, genies are not meant to take on mobs by themselves). However, I'm going to say that the Longevity (DEX) genies seem to have it best, being able to increase the duration of everything, and I have found the buffs to be the most useful of their skillset.

Not sure yet. Their size is really bugging me though, those things are freaking huge.. I wish they were 1/4 to 1/8 of their size or at least have to option to hide/display like we have for fashion.

And I would have to agree that they seem to be more pvp oriented, although some of the skills could be useful in pve, if they were not so expensive to use, compared to apoc pots.

I think it's going to be Nay for me. For now, at the very least.

They seem to be way too much trouble and require a lot of maintenance. Great for those who can manage it, terrible for those who can't. That's all I'll say for now. I really don't know enough to judge accurately.

But..but...but...I want them to help me well in PvE b:cry

b:surrender This has totally destroyed my argument... If you look at them from a PvP perspective they are actually more effective. Most of the skills like the "stun yourself to stun target" one, which someone said would be a nice Kamikaze skill to help your teammates sounds plausible. *Gloom*

I guess the Genies are just Supplements for higher level PvPers. Something I have been in denial about. b:cry

All Genie threads should end now if they have anything to do with their uselessness or power. I still STRONGLY stand by duration increases tho I have a lvl 4 Wind Shield and it still only lasts 8 seconds. Make skill/buff/debuff duration based on skill level or reduce Attribute requirement please. b:cry

wait what's that lassie? You need a sink for the new house or jimmy will die of thirst?

    *hands over the genie*

That should be enough for 3 or 4 sinks!

    SP sink
    XP sink
    money sink
    gem/stone sink

It does ad value to a few skills if there wasn't such a sink involved. Decomposing armor for gem/stones is something only smiths or craftsmen can do which gives them more value. The sad part is there is just WAY to much sink in this for me. Lots of neat skills though. Also everything you buy for one genie is bound to it which sucks alot.

Genies might hold more appeal if we get more chances for XP stones. Also removing the silly XP conversions and level difference penalties would help alot. Unbind the gear as well. Lower the overhead as well on the need for stones but do not remove it.

All that said I'm likly gonna wait a month or two before really touching it cause of all of this. I'm sure there will be ALOT of changes as it is already seeming to fall apart. Likly I think 80% of this would have come up if we had been asked about them and given more details. Alot of this came apart in the first hour of release.

I do see some flaws. Granted I have four fairies right now, and other then a couple glitchs (which I assume will be worked out soon) they work very well for me.

A few things could be fixed, as some of you pointed out and I agree they would be more useful and affordable that way as well.

Like many already said by others...genies are good to pvp/tw/do bosses/TT/RB. Other than that...it's pretty much useless in grinding since it cost so much to use the skills. I tried aoe grinding w/ it and I love it..................until I found out about the STAMINA thingb:irritated.

Overall....great for pvp, TW, and dungeon...sucks for grinding. I think of genies are more like fashion now since I won't be using itb:laugh

I feel that leveling Genies the way a Veno levels a pet would work much better. Just make it harder.

The way it's done right now, players who need Spirit for normal skills and don't want to give up Exp to level their Genie are in a dilemma. Leveling the Genies this way feels impossible to players like me. As a Barbarian, I'm already struggling with Spirit. Having to level a Genie doesn't help.

My wizard has over 2m Spirit to sit on, with no important skills to buy. My barbarian, on the other hand, lacks enough Spirit to even get some of the "core" skills, many of which are underleveled.

but im still getting the hang of it

Genies are nothing but a way to make noobs use training esotericas and such at an earlier lvl. People want the thing the same level as they are, and are gonna work on that at a rate which will destroy the leveling mechanic of the game.

As it is, it takes an average of 1-3 days for the average player to get withing there fb19 range, now if people are trying to get a genie up with them, it's going to probably triple that time.

Huge waste imo, I'm regretting the little I wasted on mine already.

I'll likely wait a month also until all the bugs are worked out from them ... wasted 33% exp on mine and not satisfied with it.

I believe, as a few others have stated, genies were brought in so each class could "balance" themselves and are also meant to be used as a exp/sp/money sink.

As for my opinion, I don't really have one yet, good or bad. I'll wait until the first round of changes goes through before I decide if I will use a genie.

    what he said!

so far as i'm concerned, my characters have a cutesy allclass pet, and about as useless, considering how much the lil boogers cost to raise/maintain.

Don't you get spirit points for each kill? You can level your genie with exp only then, so you can keep getting spirit points without leveling. Though you might need more than one genie to keep doing it...

Just a random idea from a newb. Probably don't even work. xD

tbh the only usefulness I've seen as far as pve goes is the skill that gives 100+ chi, and probably the attack rate buff (for archers... although I haven't gotten it for mine yet.)
A lot of the attack skills that come at later levels for it are decent, but I would imagine the cost to maintain stamina kind of nullifies that.

So far it hasn't been worth the cost to level it though. Anyone wanna buy a level 62 (or 63?!) genie? :P

Genies are pretty cool imho. Sure theres heaps of bugs in them, but I think everyone expected them to be there. Give it some time for them to be ironed out.

Just don't expect genies to be a all class battle pet. They are not there to help you grind. Once you get your head around that, it doesn't seem so bad. b:victory

They are most definitely geared towards PvP, which is ok since even on pve servers theres gonna be some pk you cant avoid (cube for e.g and maybe TW eventually).

Theres also some cool skills that can be used for pve, just not as frequently as you use your skills (unless you don't mind the coin cost).

Think of the genie as a PvE 'panic button' for those 'uhoh' moments. b:chuckle

Well thats what I'm gonna be gearing my genie towards anyways.
