All class pets info needed

Ok so is there any way to make your all class pet fight by your side?
I've personaly done FB with a lvl 70+ BM who's antelope was actualy fighting so i thought they could, but when i got my own butterfly fairy she wasn't assisting me in battle at all.
Did i miss something? Are only certain all class pets able to fight?
I'm new to this game so any info in this matter would be appreciated, ty.

    Only venomancers can use pets in combat. The rest are just for show.
