Question about in game mailbox

Hi ho...

we hav just a little argument about how long messages (and items) stay in your in-game mailbox.
Certainly, if you read a message and if you take items sent to you the message will disappear after 2 days.
but what about if:

• a) you read a message and dont take the item out (caus your inv is full or you simply forgot to take it)
  
• b) you look into your mailbox, noticing that there is a new message but don
  
  ...
  whatever happened - my quetion post was sent two times... you can delete this one
