okay everyone...lets list the easiest way to preserve your charm. when going solo
1.when you are fighting mobs for quests or just grinding. attack one at a time
2. when a barb use blood bath and beasial roar (updated preferably) to make sure you hit the moster and not miss. missing hurts barbs when you are fighting tough mobs.
3. meditate when you are missing 1/4 of your hp and use your plus wood damage buff when fighting them
4. be aware of your surrondings. you don't wanna be gang banged by a mass of mobs with agro.

there are others but i want others to post ^.^

The only reason I bought a charm was to make grinding faster... and meditating would kinda defeat the purpose.

aye...but what about the people that don't have enough money to buy a new one and they have it to save them if they get attacked by like 4 mobs?

You should be able to make WAY more coins than a charm costs by grinding... if I buy a charm for ~ 400k coins... I will grind about 1 mil coins with that charm. And if I were to aggro 4 mobs... that would be an excellent time to run.

Unless you can keep some of the people who posted in the thread already out of it, I wouldn't bother.

As a veno, I use both a HP and MP charm, both bronze by the way. Why? Mainly to save my potions until really needed and I don't have a problem with using potions either (unlike many other players). The only time my charms take a major hit is if I get killed by something.

With my HP charm, my pets take all the damage themselves. But if a second monster happens to get involved (usually not intentional), then there's a chance of having the charm tick at least once. I use a potion in an attempt to prevent that but sometimes, it's still not enough and the charm ticks anyway. Oh well, no big deal to me. At least I'm still alive, which is what truly matters.

On to the MP charm. I only use two attack skills: Venemous Scarab and Ironwood Scarab (both now maxed). Saves me a lot on spirit points too. Combined with my pet's damage and my equipment having a total of +11 Magic Recovery, the only time the charm ticks is if I die or fighting monsters non-stop one after another (which I rarely do anymore). Even during combat, my MP continues to regenerate, although not as fast but it does.

Heck, I made the level 4 quest reward MP charm last until my mid-30s or so. And I earn enough money back through selling DQ items and equipment drops to buy another charm whenever either runs out.

I do not use MP charm, my MP doubles my HP, so when I do not have time to use skills to get my MP and HP back, I switch my HP and MP, use HP charm to recharge my MP. usually I do not even need any charm when I am just regular grinding. the 2 skills veno has is enought to keep up.

Oh true....., I forget that. But I still kind of doubt any intelligent person would buy a charm at lower levels because it is still a total waste of money imo.

P.S. A good suggestion for charms would be to be able to customize the %HP/%MP that would be requred for them to tick. Like having the HP Charm tick at 10% or at 75% would be nice.

no...not really...because if you buy them at a lower lvl you can soar through the lvls easier. me...i got one from a guild member and in 2 days i got to lvl 30 from lvl 9. even though i am a extremely slow a** lvler.

My techniques for avoiding charm burn include:

I pace myself, and try and avoid combat which burns my charm (this can sometimes be really annoying and can depend on lots and lots of other issues).

I wear recovery gear which significantly boosts my health and mana recovery rates, so if I am careful I can always go into each battle with full or practically full health and mana.

I sometimes use apothecary recovery items or other consumables.

Ideally, I think of each charm tick like I would think of dying. If I can fight without dying, I am doing things right. If I can fight without ticking my charm, I am doing things right (and if I can fight without ticking my charm I can fight without dying). But this approach only works for me with HP charms. (I am an archer and if I use winged shell with other skills I almost alway tick my charm with my shell which then wastes all or most all of my mana recovery.)

I disagree, it greatly reduced the amount of time i spent sitting around waiting for my HP to recover ... which in turn made the game much much much more enjoyable, add in the fact that one charm lasted me about 25 levels (15-40 or there abouts) i think it was fantastic value.

Been using charms since lvl 5. Bronze charms were a wonderful life saver and an awesome method to power through mobs w/o needing to rest/mana up.

I've reduced my charm usage now that I have Natures Grace, Metabolic Boost and Soul transfusion figured out (thanks to a nice Veno who splained it to me). My charm usage has been cut dramatically. I almost never have to use pots/powders/charms unless i'm on a World Boss with Nefarious, or doing an FB (TT's are easy ad don't require much effort to keep mana and hp up).

I would use an MP charm more often if it was set to 25% instead of the 75%.I don't use them atm my gold one lasted about a little less than a month.

The only way I can see to preserve it is to be able to toggle it off.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

Best bet to preserve a barbs hp charm is a cleric to buf and heal.

2nd best way is to get a wiz or archer to kill all your targets for you before you get to them. Yeah, your an XP leech, but maybe worth the investment later on.

    Finally,
Use the Apoth. With some of those regen powders, you'll not tick for 10 mins unless you get 2-3 on you at once.
Use pots you picked up along the way to supplement your hp before your charm ticks
Grind in human mode for faster killing, kill it before it hurts you.

Leveling as a barb is a pain in the butt. Doing it on a budget is rediculous. Find a squad, and party kill for a while. You keep the clerics and squishies alive as they nuke your targets. Win\Win.

Using a charm at low level is AWESOME! Better if you've already leveled a character high and know how to preserve those charms. Or how to burn them in a hurry for fast xp.

Veno's REALLY can't contribute to the charm discussion. Except for mp, thiers almost never tick, and only if they are **** around. My veno has an HP charm, the 10k one that was given in a quest way back when...think I've still got 5k+ on it.

Ok then this is how it will work. Since you guys are all obsessed with not using the charm there are 2 ways things will go based on that.

1: Don't equip it in the first place! It won't be used.

2: If I'm the cleric in a party and you are tanking, I'm going to sit down and meditate just before MY charm gets used. If you die, too bad. You yell at me if your charm gets used you have NO right to complain if I stop so mine does not get used.

Personally, I equip charms for TW. I do not use them much in TW but could not be effective without charms. Out of TW, an HP charm usually lasts a long time for me, if I am careful (Twilight Temple burns them). But MP charms last only if I avoid using my skills.

TW seems like an expensive time eater, but I hate letting my friends down. And, TW has funded some of my skills (I am in my mid 70s and I still do not have enough spirit).
