Difference between Crystalline and Volcanic Magmite

I looked up on the stats on http://www.ecatomb.net/petstat.php for both golems. Seems almost the same to me. I have heard that crystalline has better Pdef, while Volcanic has better Patk. Is it true? Which one is the better golem?

By looking at that you've already answered your own question. In the end the crystalline will have "slightly" better stats, but the volcanic will be slightly cheaper to train, assuming you train at all.

    *Edit*
The volcanic is also .1 m/s faster at 90. lol.

the main difference is that volcanic magmites come with the "tough" skill whereas the crystalline magmite comes with a level 2 bash instead of level 1. bash costs 200k to upgrade. tough costs 300k to teach.

volcanic magmite is worth 100k more at the cost of negligible stats.

then again, i got a crystalline magmite (was easier to tame at the time...) as i plan on getting a herc soon anyways.

Magmites here, magmites there... Magmites everywhere. I see countless venos (preferrably with bat wings) with their magmites. They might be good tanks but they're taking up all your screen, and when I see a bat wing veno with a magmite I use to think, "oh how incredibly original...". Sorry for my venting ;) They bore me to death, those magmites. And I'm a veno too.

I'm a bat wing veno with a magmite. Doesn't mean I copied someone else. I started playing the day PW went OB and this is the design I just happened to pick. Nowadays, you see Hercs and Nixs everywhere.

As for the topic, yeah the volcanic is 1m/s faster @ level 90, but that doesn't mean the crystalline won't catch up at 91 or 92.

Personally, I keep a magmite as well as others for fun. Magmites just due to stats, and the others are because I like their looks.

Crystalline Magmite doesn't have Tough (Crustaceous I think? not sure). Either that, or some other skill that Volcanic Magmite has that all Magmites need.

However Crystalline>>>better stats. It's lower level too, so in long run its stats will obviously be better.

Just pick one: would you rather have better stats or save several hundred thousand on skill?

Personally I prefer Magmite, you'd have saved several hundered k by the time you're level 40.

The stat difference is hardly noticable, while the hole in your pocket from buying "tough" is. I would suggest catching the golem with the free skill!

Tough is a useful skill if you're luring mobs that can kill a golem very easily...it adds a lot of defence and lasts long enough for a lure.

For the most part the main difference between the two besides the minor skill difference is the names of the two, lol. The tiny difference in stats, is not only not noticable when playing the two. But chances are if you do ever make it to your 90s, you most likely will have a herc by then anyways. And none of this will even matter by then.

Also, volcanic magmites are elite (meaning they're much stronger than regular mobs) so lure one away from the pack before you try to tame it (I suggest using a crystalline magmite to "tank" it). Once it's tamed then the "elite" status disappears so it'll be weaker than when you tamed it.

Let me correct you there. The Volcanic Magmite isn't just faster at level 90. Volcanic Magmites are always 0.1 m/s faster than Crystalline Magmites of the same level. Or, a Volcanic is equal, in speed, to a Crystalline 10 levels higher.

The usefulness of tough is actually arguable since in most cases, either the pet will be killed faster than you can heal, or won't. Having 15 seconds of reduced damage every minute really doesn't help much in the long run. Having a higher bash at lower levels however means that your pet keeps agro easier, so you aren't targeted as often. Although, yes, it's a 100k difference between buying tough, or upgrading bash, that's assuming you have the 200k-300k that you can spend at those lower levels. You'll eventually want to buy a herc, or raise up a qingfu/shadou/armored bear once you can afford one anyway, or just tame a torgrim for the lower stats and higher skills, so it's kinda moot.

Personally, I had leveled and used both from level 20 till 45, found the crystaline magmite to be a bit better due to being able to hold agro better without having to buy skills, and ditched the volcanic one. But really it's all personal preference and what you plan to do with it. You probably won't be tanking any bosses with either anyway.

Imo, Tough is a debuff lurer skill.

Magmite is a bit slow to be much of a lure though. And for luring, it's usually best not to use a skill which creates aggro toward everything that is targeting that pet.

The best lure is one which can get to and hit a single target before it gets killed. In that respect, a cactapod, eldergoth, kowlin, minkii or other fast pet is usually the better choice, skill or no.
