I'm sure this has been talked about a million times over

but the problem with them lil kitty shops in west arch i believe is one that should not be there. . Arch for lvls early on is a place you need to go to to get missions. . and because of that everyone is there and I personally think its ridiculous that all the cat shops are set up lagging the heck out of the place.

What I'm curious about is, how hard would it be to make a small to medium sized town in the game, lets say it's called "Trade Town." There are no missions based out of the town, the only purpose of it is for trading, bartering, cat shops and whatever else goes on.

In doing that, they would also ban cat shops from arch, freeing up the jam that is west arch, making the events easier on all of our computers and making the low lvl players actually able to enjoy getting from one end or arch to the next instead of freezing all the time

. . just my 2 cents b:bye

If it's too laggy for you then click on the running man icon above your hp whenever you enter west archo...that will eliminate any lag you will get.

I like the idea of "trade town"....so many other game has it.

Edit reason: Didn't read the trade town part carefully.

You can make a trade town but I'm willing to bet merchants will still set up in Arch. The idea behind setting up a shop is to have as many people as possible pass by and check your shop. Just because all your quests and stuff are in Arch, it makes sense for people to set up shop there.

I'm not sure the catshops are causing the problem.
There are only 2 images for the catshops (pink/brown) + player/shop name.

All the players though have different clothes, weapons, mounts and have various effects like glowing weapons, flaming swords. All this information has to be sent to your pc and in a crowded city this will cause lag.

The only way to get rid of lag,is to get rid of other players. b:laugh

Not if kittyshops are disabled there. Trade town is a proven concept used in many other MMOs. As long as trading elsewhere is disabled, it'll work.

PW is obsolete in term of programing. It only use one thread. Dual/quad cpu won't add to the smoothness. It also only use one gpu, sli/cf/x2 cards won't add to higher fps. It's just a bottleneck that newer computer won't necessarily help loosen.

interesting. . then why is it my friend with a cpu i helped build with him runs significantly better on his then mine?

i understand that your computer hardware works to a point(mainly ram, and video card) but i would still think that the better the computer the better the outcome, even if the server is not uber powerful in comparrison

Of course it helps, just not by a lot, since the software isn't taking advantage of the hardware. A modern desktop would be working at a fraction of full load, compared to a single core laptop at full load. But hey, if the laptop is weak enough, its whole single core cpu may very well be slower than one of the desktop's 4 cores.

Works with west arch, but apparently not the invasion event. It'd be nice if they just update the game.

That doesn't always work for some people, it may only help get rid of some lag for them.

I like the idea of a "Trade Town", instead of people spamming catshops in Archy.

Seriously though, people leave their computer on for 24/48/72...etc hours, on buy/sell catshops. It's crazy. Lags everyone who actually plays the game, increase server operating cost, and wastes electricity. Those greedy catshoppers just don't want to put sales up at the auction house, where they'll be subject to competition and won't be able to scam people. There should be a time limit on catshops.

The lag problem is really only for 10 levels (20-30), then you can fly past all that and do your business in North Arch or wherever. After level 30, do you really need to run through west Arch?

I personally think the big problem here is exactly that. lvls 20 - 30 are huge in that for a lot of classes, this is the first big grinding point in the game, and in that a lot of people seem to quit around these lvls, and The lag in Arch I'm sure does not help the cause

but then again, this could just be my thinking

It's a safe bet those who quit also think this way. There is a reason other MMOs seek to avoid precisely this situation.

i love the idea too...its an excellent one.

the one big problem with it, that will more than likely prevent it ever happening, is that unless it exists in the oriental version already, it isnt going to be in ours. so far as i have seen, whatever "new" things we get, are things that already exist over there....they are just new to us. so unless there is a trading center created in the original game, i seriously doubt we ever will.

...and i hope i am wrong! this so needs to be done.

There's an even simpler solution. They should just add a "hide cat shop" button. If you're just passing through Arch for quests or visit NPCs, you'd turn this on and the client wouldn't download nor render the cat shops. When you do wish to shop, you'd just hit that button and all the cat shops would show up again.

Similar option in EQ (hide shop) for the Bazaar, worked great and REALLY eased rendering lag.

I agree that this would be a really good option for PWI to suggest to the devs to implement.

I Third the motion, all in favor say I!

I don't think the lag problem is due to the cat shop. It is actually due to all the non-catshop players in the area.

The reason mmorpg games use a stock toon for shops (in this game the cat looking shops) is so that if there are lots of them around, the graphic loading time is reduced. (your client does not need to load the different armors/weapons graphics on your screen).

You'll notice that if you log out in town and log back in, the frist thing you'll see are the catshops. Then the non-shop players graphics will not load till a bit after.

so the lag should be caused by all the players around the shop that's bogging down the game client in loading the different armor/weapon graphics and not the cat shop graphics.
