Lag? Skipping? How can it be fixed?

I just started this game a few weeks ago. Playing all classes to see which I like best before I start to level up.

The question is about the jumping/lagging I am getting, especially in towns. I know about the little thing in the upper left hand corner to make things disappear so it helps out a bit, but how does this work when I start to group with other players?

Would a computer with more RAM help? Faster connection? Dual-Core?

or is this a non issue with most players?

    Lag is all around...especially in Arch.
