Wiz Apprentice Asking for Spell Advice

An old wizard sat patiently on a rock overlooking a lake as his apprentice raced up to him breathlessly.

"Master," the boy managed to say between gasps, "which spell should I use to kill Flying Kite Bats?"

The master stroked his thinning beard and replied earnestly, "Well, that depends on which spells you know."

"I know Pyrogram, Gush and Stone Rain. So which should I use?"

The master paused and replied, "Well, that depends. What level are the spells at?"

The boy, proud of his spell mastery said, "Gush is level four, Pyrogram is lvl three and Stone Rain is level two." He tapped his foot as he was in a hurry to go and battle the bats.

"Well, that depends. Are the bats elemental or physical?"

The apprentice blinked hard in frustration now. 'Why can't the old man just give me an answer so I can go kill the bats?' he asked himself.

"They are water based so should I use Stone Rain?"

"Well, that depends," the master replied. "Is the spell fast enough to kill them quickly?"

"Master," the boy replied, "the bats have a lot of health and the fight will take a long time. If I use the other two spells together I might have a better chance."

"Well, in that case it depends on how good your armour is."

......an hour later............... "Well, that depends."

"Master, should I wear arcane armour or light armour?"
"Master, should I go hell or heaven?"
"Master, should I upgrade masteries early or late?"
"Master, should I go crit's or channelling?
"Master, should I .........."

The master walked away to travel the world and solve its mysteries for himself.

Ah...I see what'cha did there. Pretty good satire...people should explore and learn some things on their own, and only rely on others for minimal advice; a proverbial guiderail to aid them on their own path.

    Sandstorm and Stone Rain.
Arcane for pve, light for pvp (till 90)
Hell is for power, it shines much later (as you level past 90)
heaven is for chi, best if you plan to stay 90.
Upgrade masteries early, max sandstorm and max earth mastery first.
Channeling/crit is preference, keep in mind CAST times and cooldowns arent affected by channeling, and you use more mp. Crit is more mana efficient.
Master says you should stop talking in third person and in story-form. It only baits teh fl4m3z

Sandstorm and Stone Rain. do you remember the lvl you got sandstorm?
Arcane for pve, light for pvp (till 90) why not the oppsosite? wizards take a LOT of phys damage from mobs, getting killed easily by range phys attacks and phys aoe, so light armor has its appeal for PvM. for TW a good team can escort a full magic/robe wizard to wipe full squads.
Hell is for power, it shines much later (as you level past 90) is that "hell is for power" related to some fim you saw? I see no reason to think sages are worse than demons at 90+
heaven is for chi, best if you plan to stay 90. maybe for you having 50% chance of saving 1 spark is more appealing than 50% chance of cancelling targets' channeling with demon blade tempest. maybe for you having 50% chance of saving 1 spark is more appealing than getting demon mountain's seize aoe extended to 17. maybe you even prefer 20% chance of using no sparks with black ice dragon instead of sage's 50% chance of bumping critical by 30% for 10 sec. btw i didn't get the level thing...
Upgrade masteries early, max sandstorm and max earth mastery first. what if i prefer glacial snare's slowing effect instead of sandstorm's attack rate curse? what if i'm low on coins and need to choose between a mastery and a spell? what if that mastery cost prevents me from buying a good weapon?
Channeling/crit is preference, keep in mind CAST times and cooldowns arent affected by channeling, and you use more mp. Crit is more mana efficient. -% channel makes a lot of difference for long spells which are mainly morning dew (well... not all wizards play cleric's role on barbs) and mountain's seize/black ice dragon/blade tempest nukes are like an invitation to get sealed at TW and PK wars. critical %, on the other hand, can kill some mobs of your level with 1 single hit and i don't think many players have stats to survive 1 single critical aoe hit. so... why not both?
Master says you should stop talking in third person and in story-form. It only baits teh fl4m3z

just a few thoughts to puzzle you

    @King_Solomon:
Leveling to 60 is quite easy, therefore robes wins after 60 because of all the magic mobs available. By the time you hit 80 to start goin back to phys mobs, you can kill them fast enough. Robes are definitely PvE material, whereas LA is PvP since it focuses more on surviving other players.

Demons do more damage in the later levels.
The reason sage is better in the 89/90 levels is because the first 3 skills are better with sages. However, you are correct, sages are definitely not "worst" than demons. But Amour is also correct.

The reason 90 is the level required to enjoy sage more than demon is because you only have a small arsenal of sage/demon skills available to you at 89. The ultimates you listed there are ALL level 99, a level which will take a very long time to achieve. That's why.

Glacial Snare's slowing effect is good, but it's cooldown is 15 seconds.
That's twice as long as sandstorm for only 200 - 300 damage more.
If you're low on coins, sandstorm is definitely the better choice.
Sandstorm > Weapons > Mastery is probably what Amour meant.
Regardless, Sandstorm > Huge Gap > Glacial Snare.

-Channeling to support just morning dew is never worth it.
Mages have low crit, its very difficult to "stack both".
You go with one or the other.
    10 - 20% -channeling + 2% crit.doesn't make much difference.
But, -40% channeling makes a lot of difference on its own.
And, +5 - 6% crit is also a much better option.

    demon gush (lvl89) has +600dmg
demon stone rain (lvl89) has 20% chance to stun
demon pitfall (lvl89) has 33% chance to freeze
demon divine pyrogram (lvl89) has reduced channel (i must check it in game later...)

sage gush (lvl89) increases slowing to 45% for 9 seconds
sage stone rain (lvl89) has channel time reduced to 1.6 seconds
sage pitfall (lvl89) has increased slowing effect to 20%
sage divine pyrogram (lvl89) lowers fire res by 20%

to my mind demon lvl89 spells look much more attractive than sages' and gush actually does more dmg for demons. well... i'm assuming few like pyrogram and crown of flame.

I use it as initial skill for all mobs except water ones. yes it's damn expensive but it's also great to PK barbs/bms. I rely more on combos with gush and will of phoenix than stone rain, pitfall or sandstorm so I made my water mastery lvl10 before earth and I have no regrets. I agree sandstorm has great dmg but I think it's more valuable to kill bosses with squad than soloing.

I don't see wristguards or belts with +% crit for sale here (HT)... and 1% crit amulets are more expensive than good ones with -6% channel. Though I also prefer +% crit I don't see a way to get all my items with it. So stacking crit+channel items or going for channel only are the only choices at the moment.

You're bringing up examples of level 99 skills.
Books past 89 are somewhat hard to get.
