I've been reading the guides and i think my builds ok, but i don't know what to do about gear? i'm level 18 and have just over 100k~, and i've looked but i can't really find an adequate explanation of what i should do with money or where i should get decent gear.

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I wouldn't recommend sinking much $ into gear at this point, for the simple reason that you will probably outgrow it fairly quickly. I don't think I spent much on armor at all until after I hit 50.

Agree one hundred percent. At those levels, even standard plain old NPC armor will do. If you get a better one drop, or find one selling cheap, by all means use it.
Dont bother refining it or socketing shards or doing anything "nice" to it. Reason, three or four days later.....guess what? You've outgrown it.
Wait till you need to start grinding to level before you worry about equipments.
