Hi,

I have recently gotten a pet that I want to use specifically for luring. What are the very best skills I can put on it for that main purpose of that job?

Thanks

There is no particular pet skill for luring. The important part is to have a pet that is fast enough and pdef/mdef enough to survive the lure. You will have multiple pets and each has it's purpose and situational uses - that includes luring. Generally, I use my Magmite for pdef and Sharpshooter for mdef. The golem is slow, but can take punishment. The Sharpshooter is faster, but not as sturdy. For most situations though, I could use either (and of course my flying pet for air assaults).

A good skill for luring is Flesh Ream, as that will continue to do damage even after you unsummon the pet. Who doesn't love free damage?

As far as survivability, I've found any of my pets can lure just fine so far. Of course, I've got tough pets (magmite, longhorned carapest, petite sawfly), and I'm still a little low level.

If I lure, I usually turn pet skills off, normal attack hits faster, so you can unsummon it sooner. So you just need a good aggro grabbing skill when you resummon.

Tough is probably the most useful "luring" skill. Nothing else really helps one way or the other. If you've ever lured Wurlord in squad mode then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

As stated, there is no particular skill you can use for luring. I personally (along with Obsessed) turn off skills as it takes an extra second or two for the pet to cast any skill.

Everyone has their own preference when it comes to what pet to use.

But if you are in a group of people the best thing to do is to take into consideration two things for your luring pet:

    1. How small it is...
    2. How fast it is...

Large groups prefer a small pet to lure with, none of this magmite ****. You cant click around a magmite, hard to do it with a herc.

The best all around luring pet has gotta be the Kowlin. It is the fastest land pet and can usually tkae 2 or 3 hits until you unsummon. The next best is the Shadou Cub. Smallest you can get a little on the slow side compared to the Kowlin.

    true!

and I really like the slow skill, especially when there's not enough room to stand far away from the mob or for "increased movement" ones.

I find slow the best skill for luring. My pup in general survives anyway, so might aswell slow down the mob so it can't reach me.
But with bosses like wurlord i send in my herc though.

Tough is probably the most useful "luring" skill. Nothing else really helps one way or the other. If you've ever lured Wurlord in squad mode then you know exactly what I'm talking about.

I've lured Wurlord many times. I've had 100% success with my ranged pet which is a proof of concept for me of an Eldergoth Marksman being better than a Kowlin for luring. At lvl 84, I still haven't been tempted to put tough on it, but do have it on my disposable petali lure. It simply only gets killed when it's clearly my fault (sometimes from over confidence in it).

I just bought an Armored Bear considering that it might be valuable as a magic tanker if given the same buffs as a herc. (Herc needs ~5 levels to catch up to it in mag def?). Though it doesn't have the same mag def as a frogling, it does have higher HP (but less than herc).

I was planning on putting roar on this pet, but I hate trashing skills that come with pets because I've seen a lot of wisdom in the skills they've come with. I've also wasted a lot of SP and coin on skills. The Armored bear comes with tough, threaten and pounce. Threaten decreases physical attack for 15 secs while pounce has an 80% chance to stun and increases attack rate by 25% for 15secs, and tough we all know reduces physical damage taken for 15 seconds. So you could lure with tough ->pounce ->threaten which will make for a safer lure. You get an 80% chance you'll have more time to prepare herc, and 100% chance of less damage (may save GA / or charm tick) if you end up getting hit. The Bear at entry lv. 80 is 8.5 m/s and cost ~800k atm on HT. Considering the price of those skills, I'd say it might be a bargain deluxe lure pet?

I don't believe there's a single lurer that's best for all occasions. I do think the kowlin is over rated though. =P

If you unsummon the moment the skill attack starts, the pet disappears just as quickly as if you unsummoned on a regular attack, but the skill still fires. Sometimes you even see damage numbers above the pet as if it were hit, but when you summon it again, it's still at full hp. Add in the distinct animation (and sometimes colored lights) coupled with a skill attack, and I think using skill attacks to lure is the way to go.

Fixed that for you. A test against a single mob is hardly proof of concept in the general case.
Won't work. Pounce and Threaten are non-damaging skills. If all your pet does is debuff the mob, the moment you unsummon your pet, the mob goes home. Your pet has to actually deal damage for the mob to aggro onto you. So you'd have to do Tough->Pounce->Threaten->regular_attack. Actually, Tough->Pounce->regular_attack->Threaten would be better since it maximizes the duration of Threaten after the mob has reached you.

Pounce does not work on bosses either. They always resist the stun.

Also, why bring back such an old topic instead of starting a new one?
