A wraith attack is a regular event that happens everytime you see that wraith attack message. You do not have to sign up. Just go to the town listed in the message and there will be many monsters right outside the town with wraith in their name somewhere. People do these events for the drops. The monsters drop many dq items and have a good chance to drop celestones, wraith tags (give rep), scrolls, and other things that are usually rarer drops. There is also a boss wraith that comes and drops good items.
The level of the monsters in dependent upon which town it is attacking. For example wraiths in the swamp will probably be about lvl 70 while at bamboo village will probably lvl 10 or 15. Other than the possible lag and all the kill stealing that goes on at these events, they are usually fun and a quick way to make some coin.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
The wraith level is the level of the mobs that are regularly found in the area rounded up to the next multiple of 10. The lowest they will be is 20 (around the villages in the race-specific starter areas).
Wraith attacks are generally a place where ordinary notions of kill-stealing get thrown out the window. To make it worth your time, you will want to find a spot where you will not be competing for kills with too many people you cannot outdamage. The respawns are fast enough that staking out such an area is fairly productive. But, you want to be ready with skills that will let you quickly get in enough damage that nobody else will be getting the drops. For extra fun, develop a knockback skill so you can throw wraiths back at archers.
The commander in a wraith attack will spawn only a couple of times and, I think, only at the higher level attacks. He is a boss/elite type with a wide AOE. His drops are particularly good. He will spawn in the same spot for a given village each time. It is worth learning where this is either to get a chance to claim his drops or to avoid getting his AOE repeatedly while waiting for whoever did stake a claim to finally finish him off.
There is also a variant of wraith attacks that is not advertised with a system announcement, but is even more profitable - Legion attacks. Legion mobs attack Dreamweaver and 1K Streams. The drops are even better than most wraith attacks and the mobs are relatively easier to kill (very low HP for the seeming level of legion mobs).0
