it's been on my mind for quite sometime now.

i pay a fee to put something on the auction house to sell, for example 800k to bid and 1million for buy out. be it buy out or from bid, i always get lesser than the amount i requested.

am i being double charged? people pay 1million to buy out, and yet i only get 950k. mind u, i already paid my fees to auction, why was i charged yet again?

no wonder there are so many cat shops lagging west arch...

can we not have the hidden charge? b:sad

plus they charge a fee to start the sale. I've ran into this as well. Put something in AH for 200k buyout 200k and get back less than 200k. AFTER paying the AH fee to place it in the AH.

Seems pretty lame but I've gotten used to it and just calculate an extra 10% to my cost to compensate for the loss.

Another game i played, also had player shops. However there was a "tax" on all goods sold from the player shops set up in the major cities. Less of a tax in their starter cities. The Auction also had a fee but it didnt seem as large (2% i think?). I don't mind coin sinks but i dont like how this game only coin-sinks the auction and not catshops, thereby creating catshop lag central that is Archosaur. Maybe if they lessened the auction coin sink & taxed catshops within city limits, as much coin would be drained from the economy daily & the lag fest would clear. What would happen if my prior game is any example, is eventually there would be a spot established outside of city limits that would become player shop central. Unfortunately this game seems to have more @$$hats who would enjoy MPKing catshop central with a boss that way then my prior game had.

This is the norm for online auctions.

If you look at online auctions outside of the game, you will notice they charge a listing fee and a sale fee, the sale fee only upon successful sale.

This is quite reasonable if you look at it from the other point of view. Instead of asking you to pay a higher listing fee and end up losing that money for nothing if your item doesn't sell, you only pay the extra fee if your item sells. If your item sells, the 5% comes out of the sale money. If it doesn't, you don't have to pay the 5% value out of your own pocket.

if you think about it, they double charge the other side of the AH also..

i.e. if I buy gold at 120k I get charged x coin to do so

then if john doe sells gold at 120k, he gets charged x silver to sell it

so the AH is getting paid twice for the same transaction that way also..

We could all learn a lot from crayons, some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names (like chartreuse), and all are different colors....BUT they ALL exist very nicely in the same box!

Unfortunately, this works the same way with real world auctions. For example, look at Ebay. They charge both a listing fee and a final value fee. Get this, they also force you to take PayPal payments, which they own, for additional fees. This is something we have to deal with if you wish to get wider exposure to items you're selling. Also as someone else already said, this is another method of gold sink for the game alongside the Crazy Stones quest.

5% isn't that big of a fee, being that it saves the effort of having to set a Neko Shop up and waiting for hours and hours, spamming W.Arch and World Chat trying to get a buyer for whatever it is you're selling.
