Aerogear & Mounts Price Comparison

I thought I'd make this thread since a lot of info about mounts and aerogear aren't immediately obvious in-game, and as such lots of people don't know all the details- I didn't know myself that everything had the same max speed, for example. Considering how expensive these things can be, it's good to have all the info at hand before making a purchase you might regret later.

While I have done my research on the subject, I am still (relatively) a noob to PWI, and might be mistaken on some points. Please let me know if I got anything wrong, but try to do it in a non-flaming manner.

Facts About Aerogear
  • All races gain access to basic aerogear through a quest at level 30. This aerogear has a speed bonus of +0.5 m/s, an Accelerate charge of 300s, and cannot be upgraded.
  • Winged Elves also have starter wings at level 1, which consume 2 MP/second, cannot accelerate, and have no speed bonus (but can be improved with the Flight Mastery skill).
  • Flight Mastery does NOT improve the speed of the Lv 30 wings or any Boutique wings.
  • All Boutique aerogear, regardless of their listed speed, can be upgraded using Wind Widgets to a maximum of +3.0 m/s (+5 accelerated) at the Aerogear forge in Thousand Streams.
  • When upgrading your aerogear, you have to actually drag the aerogear and Wind Widgets onto the icons in the craft menu. A lot of people don't realize this :P
  • It's unproven whether your "base" fly speed is the same as your land speed, or some unknown number common to all characters. Either way, it's around 5 m/s, which means you travel at about 8 m/s with maxed aerogear.

Aerogear Price Comparisons

This lists the about of gold needed to buy each aerogear and upgrade it to +3 m/s with Wind Widgets. This assumes you're buying WWs from the Boutique in packs of 10 for 90 silver.

You need 20 widgets to go from +1.0 to +1.5, 60 to go from 1.5 to 2, 80 to go from 2 to 2.5, and another 80 to go from 2.5 to 3.

  • Blood Mist, Paschar's Spite, Spotted Skymant - 26.6G
  • Elven Radiance, Rashnu, Skymant Shade - 29.8G
  • Wings of Daedalus, Nakir's Judgment, Israfel - 34.4G
  • Elven Radiance, Rashnu, Skymant Shade - 34.8G
  • Watcher of the Skies, Daevas, Swiftshadow - 37.2G

As you can see, while the prices in the shop are wildly different, the difference is actually fairly minimal if you take into account the widgets needed to max each.

Facts About Mounts
  • Mounts are treated as pets, same as Venomancer combat pets or all-class baby pets. Once you get the mount, you have to take it to a Pet Manager to hatch it, which adds it to your Pet Menu. They take up a pet slot like any other pet, so if you already had a pet you'll have to increase your pet storage with one of the Pet Manager quests.
  • Regardless of the mount's starting speed, mounts can be upgraded to 10 m/s by bringing it and a Spurs of Alacrity or a Galewind Spurs to the Pet Manager. The Spurs of Alacrity upgrades a 7 or 8 m/s mount to 9, and the Galewind Spurs upgrades a 9 to a 10. Both spurs also lower the level req to 20. Mounts that start at 10 m/s (like the Hell Hound) cannot be upgraded.
  • Like with aerogear, you have to actually drag the mount and spurs onto the icons in the craft menu. I imagine that you have to turn the mount back into an egg before upgrading it, though I don't know for sure as I don't own a mount.
  • Mounts gain experience as you ride them. Their max level is 11, at which their speed is 1 m/s higher than it would normally be. So, the absolute max speed any mount can obtain is 11 m/s.

Mount Price Comparisons

Again, this lists the price to both buy a mount and raise it to max speed. Not all mounts are from the Boutique, but they can all be upgraded. Spurs of Alacrity cost 10 gold, while Galewind Spurs cost 15.

  • Windsprint Panther, Polaris Snow Cub, Chubbs, Quick Sika Reindeer - 35G
  • Vicious Raptor, Ancestral Kirin - 45G
  • Crimson Leaper, Dark Charger - 25G + 2.49m coins
  • Swift Whitewind, Silver Mane, Violet Lightning - 25G + Dragon Orders (don't remember the exact quantity, will update later).

There are also a few mounts that were part of holiday events or limited time offers. You can still buy them from other players, but there's no set price for them. I won't bother listing them since I don't know all of the ones that have been in PWI, but the two most common ones nowadays are Midnight (9 m/s) and the Hell Hound (10 m/s).

Mount or Aerogear?

Which is better? Well, neither- they both have their advantages. If you can only afford one or the other, here are some things to think about:

Advantages of Aerogear
  • It's not a separate animal you're riding, despite what the Untamed gear looks like- they don't require food, and you don't have to worry about them getting attacked.
  • You can just go over obstacles like cliffs and rivers, and if you fly high enough you can set yourself on autopilot without worrying about monsters.
  • Acceleration (if you're willing to spend the chi stones to refuel).
  • Gives a slight tactical advantage in battle- mostly when running away ;)

Advantages of Mounts
  • At max speed, they travel considerably faster than you would in the air, as long as you're going in a straight line.
  • You get basic aerogear for free at level 30, so there's not as much incentive to purchase.
  • All spurred mounts require you to only be level 20.
  • Some special events outright require you to have a mount.
  • Riding on a mount of any kind looks cool, whereas some of the aerogear looks rather bland.

Hopefully this guide helped inform some people about some of the mechanics of mounts and aerogear. If I made any mistakes or left anything out, post it and I'll edit it in.

I thought that if you invested in flight mastery you become faster even with lvl 1 wings putting some spirit into them would make them get up to 1.0m/s or 1.5 m/s minse is set at lvl5.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.
