My old monitor plays PWI better than my new one?

So I finally solved my graphic lag issue... but the thing is, when I play on my Acer X203H widescreen - or something like that - the game still moves a bit slowly. However when I hook up it to my old NEC MultiSync LCD1555V, the game plays perfectly smooth. Does anyone know why this is happening? By all means, my old monitor is putting on the years, while this new one I just bought a few days back. Is the widescreen I have not made to handle PWI's graphics? Or is there something else happening?
I'd just like to know... because 1600x900 in comparison to 1024x768, I prefer the 1600x900 one.
Thanks!

Acer is a cheap company, they make cheap products for cheap price. It's like going to Wal-Mart, you buy cheap quality stuff for cheap.
For anyone looking for decent monitors, I recommend: Dell, UltraSharp0 -
So the problem itself /is/ the new monitor? It just can't handle the game?0
-
I wouldn't say it can't handle it. It just wasn't built for games.
When the flat screen monitors first came out, the olf CRT monitors topped all the monitors due to the refresh rates. There was no comparison. I havn't done much research or picked up a monitor for awhile, but I asume they are close to the CRTs or maybe very simular.
If you plan to buy future products in the near future, take a look at
http://ncix.com
See what there top buys are. It will usually give you a general idea of whats good and whats not for a reasonable price.
Also pay careful attention to name brand.
Here are the brands you should NEVER NEVER NEVER buy.
Maxor
Acer
BenQ
LG
Here are brands I recommend:
Asus Motherboards (Don't Cheap out, buy the good one)
Power Supply 450++++ no question about it
Nvida or Radeon Video Cards. I buy nvida, and I would never recommend the first generation series, alwasy buy the end of the series where they fixxed everything and finallized the product.
Hardrive - Seagate and Western digital, I questions Seagate now since they been bought out by Maxtor, but if there operations are the same then there hard drives are not affected. Go with Western Digital.
Montors, Dells are good, Samsung maybe, havn't test it yet.
Lots of research!!!!0 -
Thank you for that. =D
I'll check out Ncix to see what I can find, but I am looking for a monitor preferably under 250$, best if it was under 200$. The current card I use is nVIDIA GeForce 8200m that comes integrated with the new computer I bought just a few days back (Acer Aspire AX1200-B1770A) so I've also been looking for a new graphics card on the side as well, since there seems to be an avaliable PCI-E slot in the PC.
EDIT:
Can someone please tell me how well this monitor would work?
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=35788&vpn=LS20TWHSUV%2FZA&manufacture=Samsung&promoid=1065
This is the one I currently have that does not exactly support PW without lagging:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=34533&vpn=ET.DX3HP.001&manufacture=Acer&promoid=10650 -
1600x900 = 1440000
1024x768 = 786432
You have almost doubled your pixel count. Your monitor is fine you will be relieved to know.
Your video card is barely better than a GMA950 however is your problem. Upgrade your video card and you will be happy b:victory. In the mean time turn your graphics settings down or play in windowed mode and you will see the exact same performance. Test it yourself, open a windowed mode PWI at 1024x768 on your 1600*900. It will be the same.
As for those brands you listed to avoid buying. Actually contrary to popular belief Caledfwlch, LCD manufacturers don't actually make the monitor. What they do is buy a LCD panel and put into a casing and then sell that. You have to do your research to see if the panel on the inside is worth it. BenQ makes some amazing monitors out there, but they also make crappy ones utilizing TN panels. Same goes for all the others. It comes down to researching the product before you purchase.
Hope this helps.0 -

I second the Western Digital opinions.
As for your monitors, try running in Windowed mode as already suggested (with graphic settings turned down), but make sure that you turn VSync OFF if you are running the game on a flat screen monitor.Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

Vsync actually is a nice benefit to LCD monitors in under a large ammount of scenarios.
As for HD's. Hard drives are like rolling dice. Each company makes good HD's and bad HD's. Just depends on luck.
I had a WD800JB, a few years ago. It died on me 9 times throughout its warranty lifetime. Personally, I wont touch WD ever again after that. Seagate 7200.11 drives are amazing.0 -
Mikoz is correct; you've nearly doubled the screen resolution, so your computer's integrated video is struggling. LCD monitors have advanced so far that even cheap Acer units are perfectly fine for most folks now. (I have an Acer myself.)
You need a new graphics card that can handle the higher resolution. Your problem is that your mass-produced mainstream computer probably doesn't have a very beefy power supply. I suggest a card based on the Radeon HD 4670 chipset. It gives midrange performance while consuming only 59 watts under max load; it doesn't even need a separate power connector. It should run PW smoothly at max settings on your new monitor. Type "4670" into newegg.com for lots of choices. Be sure to check the size of the card; your system looks like a slimline model that may have limited room inside the case."Sorry, we don't need a barbarian. We have a frog."0 -
Thank you for your input. =D
I've found the suggested Radeon card at a store close to me, but how can I tell what size it is? And yes, you were correct, the PC model I have is rather slim.
The card (if someone could please tell me where it says what size it is?)

I've also found some cards for cheaper based on the Radeon cards, and would just like your opinions on them:

Looks like you've found the actual ATI/AMD card (rather than another brand that uses the chipset to build their own version). I found a review that mentions the size of that card:
http://www.gamepyre.com/hardwared.html?aid=1021&p=3
They say it only needs space for a single slot, and is short. It looks in the photos like the same small size as other 4670 cards that customers talk about using in their little Home Theater PCs (HTPCs) over at newegg.com. Thus my best guess is that it'll fit--in fact, I believe it was designed specifically for computers like yours--but any advice from other knowledgeable folks would be great. I don't want to steer you wrong!"Sorry, we don't need a barbarian. We have a frog."0 -
We need the model number for your motherboard or complete system. An image isn't going to tell us much.
The card you are showing is a PCI-E card. If your computer has a PCI-E slot great.
Other slots that you might have for a video card are PCI and AGP.
You will want to get a video card for a slot that you have.Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

My model is Acer Aspire AMD Athlon X2 5200+ / Model number AX1200-B1770A.
Also from what I've checked online, this model only has 220 Watts of power. I'm trying to convince my father to break the 2 year warranty on this computer to replace the card, since returning the computer and buying another one will cost much more in my opinion.
This is what I've gathered for slots:
Acer0 -
It cut off my post. =(
Acer Aspire AX1200
3GB RAM
nVIDIA GeForce8200
PCI Express X1 Slots (Total): 1
PCI Express X1 Slots (Available): 0
PCI Express X16 Slots (Total): 1
PCI Express X16 Slots (Available): 1
PCI Express Slots (Total): 2
PCI Express Slots (Available): 1
Apparently I have 1 PCI-E slot open, but I am not yet certain.0 -
I would highly recommend against upgrading hardware such as your PCI-E until you have upgrade your power supply.
You will have power fluactions and your motherboard will fry. Power supply "first" then everything else.
I'm not to fond of PCI-E for gaming.... Maybe a new computer?
Custom built too!________________________________
the smileys are .......... no comment...0 -
=(
Can't... this PC was bought just a few days ago, and we could return it, but I am really uncertain of how much a custom built computer will cost (I need to check that out, hopefully today, if I can convince my dad to give me a ride...)
What I am looking for is 3GB RAM, a graphics card that can run PW's max graphics smoothly on a widescreen, 2+ GHz, and 400+ Watts power supply... I am not sure how much that will cost to have custom built. A new widescreen, speakers, monitor and mouse will have to be bought, too...0 -
Ouch! Acer really skimped on that power supply. However, even 220 watts might be all right. Check out Anandtech's review, where their quad-core test system running Crysis on the 4670 only used 139 watts:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3405&p=9
In the photo, it doesn't look like there's much space around the card slot, which is another worry.
My inclination would be to try it, and return both products in the event of failure. But if the stores you're buying from have draconian return policies, maybe that won't work.
You may be better off returning the computer and getting a full-size system. It's because of problems like this that I'm unimpressed with slimline machines."Sorry, we don't need a barbarian. We have a frog."0 -
I bought a Seagate hard drive recently, and it died after four months. Go with Western Digital.
I agree Western is better
I have their Terabyte drives ^__^Bringing fear and widespread random deaths into the Harshlands, that is my goal..

That is the image of the inside of my PC. However, what I am worrying about is that a 4670 card may not be able to fit in there (under the green panel, right? according to my parents).
Also, I've checked the AnandTech site and from what I've gathered, the card uses up 139Watts total. Could someone please tell me if I'm wrong on this?0 -
Ashtel - Heavens Tear wrote: »Also, I've checked the AnandTech site and from what I've gathered, the card uses up 139Watts total.
That's 139 watts for their entire test system with the 4670 card installed, running a graphics-intensive game. The 4670 card itself accounts for 59 watts or less of this total."Sorry, we don't need a barbarian. We have a frog."0 -
Alright, that will fit under my limited 220, then.
However now my parents are plain refusing to remove the warranty because they are convinced that something will go wrong with the computer itself...does anyone know if this model is prone to breaking? =S0 -
I haven't had any problems with the brands mentioned above, except for Maxtor. I've had about 3 Maxtor hard drives which all have broken down in less than a year.
As for the Acer computers I gotta say they're pain in the butt to upgrade. I've tried upgrading the memory on an Acer computer and it wouldn't start with 3 different memory chips I tried it with. Only accepts the ones that came with it.[Tech Support Junkie]

So I might be pretty much screwed if I don't buy a new system?
I've sent an email to a store that I know customizes computers asking how long it will take/how much/warranty, so hopefully they'll reply.
Cause my dad is /really/ agains breaking the warranty on this computer...0
