To move or not to move...that is the question

I'm glad that new servers have opened in the East Coast USA and like many of you I have considered moving to the new servers. I like PvE servers best so I'm considering moving to Dreamweaver, but that means leaving Heavens Tear. I've worked hard on my character and If I move I would lose all that progress so now Im in a predicament; to move or not to move.

I live close to the East Coast so I have better pings. I checked a few times and the average ping I have in HV is 158 and in DW its 118. Although it could be an advantage, I've never had major lag issues, just the usual Archosaur lag. Also with more people moving to the new servers the lag could change for both servers. The famous head start of a new server dosent work out for me, in DW there are already factions and Hercules flying around so, so much for the head start; besides im not in a rush to hurry and level up quicky. Im at level 54 and I love my character build, I wouldnt change it so that not a reason to move, besides, its finally paying off. I have an awesome faction full of really nice people and I woudnt want to leave them. Although I would move if the faction moves to the new server like other factions did.

Besides, is there a a guarantee that these new servers will be the greatest thing since sliced bread? They're new, shiny, and tempting with that fresh new car smell. Yes, people say things about the economy and how good it will be on the new servers but it could turn out either way. Not to be pesimistic or anything but ****-ups happen and bugs such as the Friday the 13th one could have happened at anytime, anywhere. Remeber, HV was once new too with that fresh new car smell.

I might move in the next few days, weeks, or months. Perhaps never or right now. Maybe when I've reached "end game" for me and my faction is dissolved I might move but the future for DW, HV and my character is still unclear. So I come here with an undecided mind and asking you, the readers, to post your oppinion on changing servers. Remember, you are the ones who decide the fate of our Perfect World.

New servers are just that: new. It doesn't make them great or terrible since it's the players populating them that will do that all by themselves.

If you don't want to leave behind all that time and money invested in a character, then don't move. Stay.

If you don't want to leave behind your guild, then don't move. Stay.

If having a better ping is better than a bad ping even though you've put time and money into the other character, then move.

Those are your options: Move or stay. We cannot make that choice for you: only you can do so.

Sometimes one must simply walk away from something and start anew.

The only reason I rolled a char on Harshlands is because I wanted to try out a PVP server and starting on a new one gives me a chance to be top dog!! b:laugh

It's because a ping difference of that kind doesn't matter. At all. Considering that, it's no surprise at all that you didn't notice. You never will. Your own reaction time is around 0.8 seconds or 800ms, just for comparison. If you ping exceeds 400ms, start worrying - not before.

Many MMO RPG makers forcibly seperate US and EU servers and tell the people "it's because of the ping". They are all liars, of course. The ping difference between EU and US doesn't matter, at all. It's because that way they can apply price discrimination and fill their coffers more, that and nothing else.

For a twitch game (e.g. Counterstrike), yes - for PW... no.

True, I didn't feel any difference in lag between my Heavens Tear ping and Dreamweaver pings. Here's an observation, I've noticed less Archosaur lag in HT lately, any comments on that?

So im guessing pings are more important in quick response games, PW dosent exactly require lightning quick responses.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!b:victory

it is not wise to switch over to the new pvp server unless u r rich and decide to reroll a veno. I'm predicting that there will be a ton of venos with phoenixes and hercs very early in the game, this is due to the huge publicity threads claiming how ownage venos are and every lower lvls in the old servers will be very veno-minded.
