Cancelling mob's magic attacks

as a bm, i have a hard time dealing with the initial range attack when fighting mobs (aggro mobs anyways). as a result, i usually open with aeolian blade (50% stun).

however, i find that sometimes the monster's magic attack is cancelled even if the stun does not go off.

what are the specific conditions under which monster's channel/casts are cancelled?

I believe that normal melee attacks have a chance to cancel channeling on mobs in the same way that they do for players. I have noticed this myself with my pets, it's especially noticeable on TT or other bosses that have a set attack pattern that include a spell.

I noticed this to, but I've never found a timing or something that enables you to porposely do it. It happend more than one that I canceled channeling with fleshrealm or devour. I think there is some proba for it, a bit like for the crit hit.

Thats coz ur a priest damnit and this only applies [spell casting by physical hit ]

Btw if u a fist user , use shadowless kick

or mage bane [increases opponent channel time] if sword person

else just stun the guy [roar of pride //drake bash [axe user]]

or just jump out of range [not sure on that one]

or if u can smack the guy [sealing] if u can

or just hit and hope channel cancels ^^

He's a cleric, that's probably why he posted. Plume shot and razor feathers do physical damage. Maybe it only applies to melee, but he, just didn't like the way you're flaming him with nonsense

hmm, i have seen this, strangely enough it happens to me while casting within the first 1/4 of channeling, and only if hit by non-magic attacks (i have had this happen when hit by archers), maybe its a random critical hit thing, or maybe it has a specific timing to it? if it has a timing, i hope nobody finds out, or all us magic users are doomed b:surrender.

i think this is worth bumping... someone has to know the exact conditions.

i have cancelled before with skills that don't have stuns... so if it does rely on a chance system, it should apply to all attacks (not just normal melee attacks)

I'll share my info, so we might figure out how it works:
When I cancelled channeling the first time with devour, I tried to find a timing. I never found a right timing though b:sad After that I simply concluded that it should be random, like the crit hit. If I remember correctly, it only happened when I was using one target skills (devour and fleshrealm). It never happend with aoe, nor with normal hits.
I can't tell anything about magic attacks. I only play melee classes. I hope this info will help to solve the mystery b:victory

As a magic user I can tell you that my own spells get interrupted all the time, melee hits, direct magic spells, and aoe all do it. I suppose it's safe to speculate that mobs would behave in the same fashion. It's probably something along the lines of 10% chance when hit to cancel channeling. That would be fairly consistent with my own experience.

Some mods/GM/admin input would be nice b:beg

Would be a good idea but problerly wouldn’t happen because you would have vast amounts of players attacking a magic channelling boss, such as sonic oppressor or even the City attack bosses and they would never get an attack of.
