How do sockets work?

I've got a chest that has an empty socket, and I need one more dexterity point to use my new bow. I want to get a dexterity gem for it. Problem is, I have no idea where to get one, or even how to put it in. b:sad Can someone help me out?

    There is no soulgem that adds dexterity that I'm aware of. Soulgems can be purchased from any merchant under the "GEM" category, and also from the jewlecraftsman in various towns. (and from other players or the auction house of course) you'll have to level again or find gear that adds a dex point.

    if you're an archer, you should be adding 3-4 dex every level anyway, and should be okay with bows. Most players do 4 dex per level.
