do you have to be a certain race to use certain mounts?

    For flying mounts yes.

    elves = wings
    humans = swords
    beasts = beasts (manta rays, birds, etc. )

    For ground/riding mounts it doesn't matter.
    Any race can ride a panther for example.

    Is there any way to get (and use) a mount (non-flying) without being level 30 or using Zen in the boutique?

    Minimum level for using a mount is 40. It can only be lowered to 20 by using Galewind Spurs on the mount, bought from boutique. And mounts doesn't need to be bought from the boutique, it can also be bought from other players.

    What Bliist said. I wish you the best of luck acquiring one through those means before level 30 though. A spurred panther will likely be the cheapest option, and those run 25 gold. Before today the general exchange rate was roughly 100k per 1 gold. Panthers tend to be cheaper than that, but it's still a lofty goal pre-30. Just a heads up for you.

    Hmm, what about the Untamed? They have animal forms. Do they count as land mounts?

    Last I checked, you cannot mount yourself. 0_0

    LOL not yourself, but girls can mount barbs in the animal form, but wont be faster than just running

    Werebeasts in kittyform run faster than most female characters, with the exception of werefoxes. Wait, might even be faster than them, not too sure.

    Oh, I wasn't thinking like that. If you are still on the ground, have no extra speed, and can't control your mount, it seems sort of lame. But I guess that is a type of mount. b:cool
