How to implement the Ability wishlist

Saw the new sticky about adding new abilities to the game ... I think that's great, but what I haven't seen is HOW this will be done. And I don't mean the actual coding ... there is of course 2 issues with adding new low/mid level skills:
1) We're already starved for SP ... simply adding more skills isn't really going to be of any benefit ...
2) Players already past the level these skills become available may be unfairly disadvantaged, having already spent their SP on other skills so unable to get the new ones.
This is of course why it's much easier to add high-level skills only. However, I'm really hoping they don't do that (so that more players can enjoy the new skills ... myself included!). So ... thought I'd create a thread for discussing how new low/mid level skills could be added. And hopefully the PW staff can also take this into consideration when they add the new skills ...
My suggestion is as follows:
Adjust some of the existing skills (beef them up and make them higher level). My preference would be to make it become available at the same level, but spread it out more (e.g: upgrade every 6 levels instead of every 5 levels). And likewise, each upgrade increases the damage/healing/whatever by more than it did before (e.g: upgrading every 6 instead of 5, this would mean the new level 6 version of the spell would be available when the old level 7 was ... and should be equivalent to it). This would relieve the pressure on SP (making 'room' for the new skills), with the side-effect of making existing skills more useful later in the game.
Give all existing characters a free 'skill reset' - they lose all the skills they've learned (or learned past a certain level - where the changes start), but regain the SP/coin spent on them. To avoid issues (for example where someone goes into combat before realizing their skills have reset :O) this should be done through a free item. (Simple Quest to get one for free, available for limited time ... and also make it available as a new Cash Shop item, since I know some people are asking for this anyway).
However, assuming the first part is done (making existing skills higher level), may need to automatically downgrade some skills (adjusting SP/coin appropriately) if they're no longer available at the current character's level.

I like the second idea much better. It solves two problems at once. I don't think the skill-starving is necessarily a bad thing, it just means you have to be picky on what skills to take, which means two different archers with the same stats, equipment, and levels may still be different since they've taken different skills.0

Deeeeniiiiieeeeeeeeeed.
Pretend I said that with a game-show host voice.
Not gonna happen.
By the time you're in your 80s, none of your complaints will matter.
Also, if they wanted to pimp up existing skills instead of add new ones, then they would have done that.
Think before you post.Everyone here is ridiculously oversensitive.0 -

Of course if you also increase the SP (and coin) cost for the improved skills then it doesn't really free up much (if any) SP, so you could have the skill-starving while still spreading out the content. Not gonna happen.

Why not? You want to play don't you? You will get to lvl 80 eventually if you stick within and you can learn that the skill or who knows when. And at that lvl is even better. I know to lvl 80 it is hard and takes long...but it is not the effort what it makes much sweeter?0 -

I also seem to recall reading some disappointed posts regarding the Lost Empire expansion, and the fact that was all high level content ... :P0 -
Well you have part right...it would be an insane lvl at lvl 100 to get those good skills bc it takes so long...even at lvl 80 too...
Dont know eighter how many skills would they like to add but if I think logical then lets see....in every lvl 9-19-29-39-49-59 are new skills and at lvl 79 too.
What is missing is the lvl 69. So I guess those skills will become at lvl 69 since the skills are empty there:P
Better then lvl 80+ hehe0 -
I stopped reading your post once you said "we're simply starved for SP". Noob, level up you won't know what to do with it all.Hey Elayne. Its illegal to harass underage girls. And CQ won the map without you.

I agree with you. However, I think the best to do is to add non-combatant skills on the game. So, whatever you have selected fighting wise is not affected.
Like non-combatant usefull pets for non-veno class. These pets among other things would track/carry mats for you.
At the same time some classes are still unbalanced and some minor skills are needed for fighting purposes.0 -

If I'm understanding you correctly, you mean on upper levels you get/have too many spirit points?
This does not surprise me since many people also say you get 100K coins per hour by grinding. Amounts that sound too big for us in low levels.
Question:
Why in most of the guides on this forum, they recommend not to get/upgrade such and such skill because you will regret it as you need spirits and coins for future skills that you will for sure need?
Of course, they also mention those skills are bugged or that you will find better skills.0 -

11.4m SP and I'm still low level in comparison to other people. The problem is gold, that's why people tell you to avoid certain skills. Even low level skills become taxing on your pocket if you try to bring them to high levels, that's why people suggest avoiding some of them.
While I find it great that you're discussing implementations of what could be new skills, well... I'm gonna say the same thing I say in other suggestion threads, if it's not in a previous version of PW, it's not happening here.
Oh, uh, you spend roughly 72k on stone dailies after 81, so 100k is candy. As only the child that I was, I tread with giants.

Now contrary to many people's belief, we here at Perfect World Entertainment do actually read the Suggestion forums.
Perfect World International is a game that is constantly changing, and we want our players to be part of that process.
So let us know, if you could add a new skill to your character/class, what skill would it be?0 -

Now, he doesn't come right out and say that they're going to add new skills ... but it's certainly implied. Admitedly, if it's just at the suggestions stage, it'll likely be months at least before we see anything. And yes, if I'm still playing by then, new low/mid level skills probably aren't going to be all that thrilling for me ... but regardless, I still think it's a good idea for them to do. (Not for all the new skills - but at least some)
I did read it, actually. I think it's mostly to keep people happy and what not, I won't believe otherwise until they actually "make something" that isn't in previous versions. As only the child that I was, I tread with giants.

When you mean gold, when do we start needing gold rather than just coins and spirits?0 -

gold = coins x.x cash is same thing when you play multiple mmo's, premium coin reference would be zen or something. As only the child that I was, I tread with giants.

At my current level (35) I have about 250k in coins. I have bought everything I have needed (armors, weapons, potions, jewlery, ect).
At the same time, I think no more than 0.5M have pass trough my hands yet. It's hard to estimate, since there is no counter anywhere.
Even though If I had saved most of the money that have passed through my hands, based on the prices you are taking about. The money would pretty much be nothing compared to future needs. I do not see any reason why to safe in low levels (either spirits or coins).
What I do see is a reason to start farming T.T. asap to start making big cash for the future big expenses.0 -

That is why I said that... you know? Every penny helps, and at lower levels SP is a little bit of a problem, which can be troublesome to your character's development if you invest them wrongly, but not in the end. Plus, I'm not sure I have mentioned any real prices, just dailies prices. Though this is kind of going out of topic. As only the child that I was, I tread with giants.
