The Art of Drama

I can't understand why there is so much drama involved with playing a game. It seems that everyone is always mad at someone or someone is talking about someone. I play this game for fun and to relax. Is there anyone else here who wants to play to relax or is everyone here to add to the drama and try to make a game their real life?

Too many people play mmos for the sole purpose of pissing everyone off. Should be bannable. Since its not, I have my own guild where it IS bannable.

Yes, having your own guild may be the only option. On the other hand, having no guild is just fine too. I have many friends and I don't think I need a guild any more.

I think it depends on what the drama is about and the persons in it.

In my case, me a blademaster have a small game with another player who is a veno that has one of those rocky magma pets.

We always have something going on (on squad or guild chat) about me having committed the crime of killing her pet’s family (since I have killed over a hundred of those mobs, which we assume are somehow related to her pet). Since, I make sure I remind her every time I have a quest to kill those and update the amount of kills of those mobs. The tally is over a hundred and the massacre continues.

Due to that, her pet wants revenge from my blademaster and every now and then we duel. But so far, I have not being able to kill the pet since she is higher level than me (10 levels higher).

I continue killing more family member mobs (as revenge from me being killed by her pet) and the game continues and repeats itself as a cycle.

When her pet and me are close on quest, fb, ect. She reminds me that her pet wants my blood.

Another veno got involded this weekend since she has a similar pet who is supposedly a brother of the pet that I’m having the feud with.

I’m a wanted criminal by those two pets and they are always looking for me.

People not involved might think that we are mad to each other due to all the words on the chat but it’s not until they are with us for a while and understand our personal game.

Another game we have is that she has another blademaster character (very low level) and I say that her character is an “impostor” since it is a veno masquerading as blademaster and I am the original/best blademaster of the guild.

This is one of those little games inside the main game that makes things more enjoyable.

@Gangrey : '' drama '' refers to the inclination of the mainstream MMO participants to try and attack the players behind the characters with IRL threats and insults. It's not related to theatrical stage drama or roleplay, but to the fact that far too many have a hard time to see the difference between the character played and the actor playing it, between game and reality.

For example, if I play a Drow, people tend to think I am an IRL psycho. If I play a hippie healer, people tend to think I do drugs and love flowers. If I play a burglar or a pickpocket, people don't come nearer than 5m because they think I will try to steal their wallet.

Incidentally, this is a genuine mental condition related to mild depression caused by an over-stressing lifestyle, players acting like this should really seek professional counseling.

In 60 levels i have literally met a handfull of people who seem to grasp this is a videogame. Those are on my friends list. Too many other people confuse this with real life and create so much drama over nothing.

People get angry at the slightest thing. People are so rude, sexist, racist its not even funny. You'd swear they never met a woman in real life the way i've had some talk to me, ones i dont even know. People think after knowing you for two weeks you are the best of friends and they can talk to you anyway they want. Theres something called respect and keeping somethings to yourselves.

People looking for shoulders to cry on. Because I am a woman that means i have to listen to every sad story of yours and care? People who can't tell the difference between someone being nice and someone flirting. Just because I say hi to you and talk to you from time to time doesn't mean we're in love and i want a relationship.

On that matter, it's a VIDEOGAME, i don't want a relationship period. I don't want to spend my online time sitting around kissing and cuddling with some virtual imaginary thing. I want to play the game. If i'm bored in the game i dont want to sit around and hold hands, i'll log off and do something else. Don't get angry and insulting if you had it in your head you wanted more and i told you i wasnt interested.

Little rant on my end but really this is a point that irks me. Myself and every single other female friend i know who play this game, we play a videogame, but always someone wants more and when they dont get it it's drama. I've never met so many lonely, desperate love hungry individuals in my life. It's a videogame...lets go blow things up and get nice loot...please? Can we stop with the drama.

And i swear 90% of the drama i see here is either about love or ego. Usualy the two co-inside. Stop looking for love from everyone that says "i'm a girl yes" and stop thinking the world revolves around you and causing drama the moment something doesn't go your way. Especially in guilds. Bite your tongue sometimes. Don't always ask for help but never offer it if theres nothing for you in it.

The majority of the drama in this game could be easily avoided if people just acted friendly and curteous, and god forbid, wanted to play a videogame to have fun and allow others to do the same.

Drama as in bad, or as in plays?

Because me and a friend's favorite thing to do is enact impromptu scenes in the middle of archosaur.

Like the time we embraced, talked lovey-dovey, then I took off on my flying sword and dropped her.

She then did the falling animation when she hit the ground and typed,

    "OH GOD MY LEGS!"

The script was a bit more elaborate, but I've NEVER gotten so many "WTF?" PMs.

    It was epic.

Play drama is not at all what I am talking about. I have a friend that I do that with all the time and it is a blast. What I am talking about is the bull **** that people pull. I agree that most of it has to do with egos and love. I also think that many of the guys on the game are children and have no idea of how to have a relationship in real life with other humans.

The other day I saw a message on the world chat from someone who was obviously shareing something that really hurt her in real life. No, I do not feel it was the appropriate place to blast a message like that but I really do not feel it is right for people to flame someone who might be in a lot of pain. Weither is was true or not I do not care. I feel for a person in pain and people deal with it in different ways. Saying something in PW world chat may be that persons way of dealing with a tragedy. Other people flaming someone for it definately doesn't help.

    Stop the drama!!!

I pretty much agree with Faustinna.

Sometimes I wonder if I wandered onto MySpace by accident when I'm in game running around. If I wanted to deal with 13 year old pre-pubescent mentality I'd actually GO to MySpace for such. But why would I want to subject myself to such lower gene pool twits to begin with?

The whole sum total of WC would equal to about one 7th grader in intelligence and maturity (and that's being generous). And I won't even begin to go into the spelling and English area...b:cry

    Less typing, more cuddling. :P

No, I agree totally with this sentiment. I have to read everything on WC now through the goggles of irony and cynicism. If I don't, I really despair for this world.

But, you know, it IS a free MMO. By nature, it's going to draw the dregs of WOW culture. I suppose we all pay to play after all, in one way or another...

yeah I agree. Its just a game and people make it out like the world is going to end because they didn't get their way or something of the sort. I see people shout in sanctuary constantly how 'this guy sucks for pking me' or 'she sucks cuz she's in a better/lesser guild' @_@ Seriously. Just make friends and relax.

I quit the last mmo i played because there were so many anal players that HAD to get their way in a game or explain in a rant on the shouts on how much he/she needs to die when you don't know who the hell they are D:

If ya hate someone so much, ignore em. You'll just make people laugh at you for causing pointless drama >.>

Relaxation + friends = More fun than trying to ruin a random peron's rep.

You already answered your question in your own forum title: Because drama is an ART. Well, to some at least. And most of the time it's about ego. About being better at PvP, or better as guild leader, or better as officer, or better at whatnot. I think around 80% of all drama I have publicly witnessed is about "my guild is so much better than your guild". Hilarious, really. Socially challenged persons looking for love in weird ways play of course some role, too.

And the reason for that is of course that there is no artificial borderline between "the game" and "the real world". People with a big ego take it of course with them into the game, they are still the same persons. Attention seekers in real life are most likely attention seekers in the game, too. And so on. There is loads of drama in real life, so there will be drama in the game. That's really just it.

i never hear a single lady char complain about the free panthers or armor or fashion.

however after acting like a real wife and having the man char spend money on you you then turn around and say it is only a game don't get emo on me. sorry to say but if you accept gifts and acts of love from some one don't complain about the emotional price tag that comes with it.

btw if you aren't one of the above referenced persons don't flame. at to my eye i have yet to meet a female char that paid for their own expensive stuff panthers 3 star equipt fashion etc. again sorry if you feel that i personally lumped you in and it doesn't apply. if the shoe don't fit don't worry.

I barely get into fights, i never shout in world chat, i never fight with guildies, and i have tons of fun on this game, and the previous ones i've played. But i love the drama personally. I think its great! Like watching a tv show but only its real people interacting, even though its pixels on a computer, someone is over there typing it. b:laugh My favorite is when people try to get me angry even though i barely say anything.

Like some guy the other day set up shop right outside the safezone. He is in a guild that is kos so i killed him in shop. He started screaming(typing form of screaming) at me in pm and so i wrote back; Sorry mate, you were outside of safe, just move over a little. He went freaking crazy, i never seen so many F bombs and death threats in my life. It was a riot. Or when people call others cowards for not coming out to 6 people to obviously die. Heck, if someone says you or your guild sucks, and you just say "No, You do!" like a 2 year old, they go nuts, hahaha

Relationship breakups kill me the most, even though both chars are probably dudes. I actually seen a guild fall apart for that on Malay server when the other found out. Oh my this stuff couldn't be scripted

Point is keep the drama going. Killing mobs to me is kind of boring, seeing these people shout all day at eachother, even sometimes at me, thats what keeps me coming backb:victory

I suspect some of the drama I've seen here (Both on the forums and on the field killin stuff) on the game being free to play, which to me kinda = more young kids playing than maybe other games which you need to pay a monthly charge.

I don't complain, I just cheat on him with another, he get disgruntled and go away, then I shoo the 2nd one with a 3rd one, and so on and so on ... And I get rich ! After all that's the sole reason of those ridiculously big ****, they're the best bait to fish singletons.

Nah just trolling, I'm a rabid money pincher but I will never involve sentiments in the business, that's just over the line, plus the victim of an emotional scam often become violent, it's unsafe to pull such a smelly rabbit out of the hat.

Would love to know where this comes from? Myself and most of the real women i know who play this game, or games period, we buy our own things. Everything we have is ours. I got my own wings of watcher, panther, etc. So did most of my friends. The ones buying each other things tend to be BF/GF and they're already in a relationship.

But you know who plays flirty to get things they want a lot? Men pretending to be women. Flirting with anyone within earshot and doing whatever it takes to get free items. 99% of the time that's not an actual woman, and you're really flirting with a man. And buying things for said man also. So in the end if you get burned by buying things for someone who dumps you, it's your own fault. You based your relationship on material items...and also with another man. b:chuckle

Everywhere you go whether in real life or online, PEOPLE=DRAMA

Though I have to admit there are more drama in MMO's coz people tend to hold their tongue less since they're hiding in the characters they're playing w/

I actually had some off-centered drama yesterday. Names withheald for obvious reasons.

Player(F): So, M1, when are we going to get married?

    Player(M1): Hmmm

Me: Yah, I should see if M2 wants to marry me. b:chuckle

Player(F): HOW DARE YOU TRY TO TAKE MY HUSBAND!!!!

    Me: Excuse me?

    Player(F): WTF IS YOUR PROBLEM!

Me: I'm sorry but you just were talking about marrying M1.

Player(F): M2 IS MY HUSBAND IN RL!

    Me: And?

    Player(F): HE'S MINE!!

Me: Wow, so let me get this straight. You're here proposing to M1 and you're married to M2 in RL. I'm flirting with M2 in-game here and that upsets you.

And the drama escalated from there. Clueless players these days and the drama they bring to everyone elses lives.
