DirectX is Windows only.
It wants to make sure you're installing on a Windows machine because it won't install on something which isn't a Windows machine.
Well, unless you're using Wine. I have no idea how well it works.
Anyway, here's a link to the redist package, found with a simple google search. http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/d/3/0d307649-9967-49fa-ab27-61f11024e97f/directx_nov2008_redist.exe0 -
yeah i have a windows box. several infact
1 print server, 1 file server in the works, and one box hooked up to the tv, and one lap top. i am not rich but i know ppl who get the latest and greatest so i ask for their cast off. then i slap win 9x or linux in them to free up as much resources as possible and make use of them in my house b:laugh
any way the box that is hooked up to the tv is still running 9x cuz i haven't felt like messing with the xfree config to get the right settings for out put to the tv.
thanks for the link i am downloading it now.
ps i haven't messed with wine yet when i do i will be prolly abandoning windows for ever since this and possibly eso are and will be the only game i play on computers b:victoryone day the world will shout to me save us....

You can probably install any 2.5" hard drive of compatible interface (SATA vs IDE); individual laptops usually have specialized hard driver carriers, but nearly every laptop built over the last eight years uses the 2.5" standard. Check your user manual for further details.
DirectX is a Microsoft Windows-only service. There are methods to get similar functionality in other operating systems, but you do not need to and can not install the DirectX functionality offered by Microsoft directly.
Please note that I'd strongly recommend installing to the hard disk of your set-top computer -- LiveCDs are functional, but seldom allow reliable customization or installation of drivers or odder software -- and that Perfect World Entertainment can not provide any official support for Linux.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
sorry about that post i was tired and kinda fried. yeah it is sata and the drive i bought was eide *slaps fore head* i don't normally work on lap tops so i forgot about that inter face.
and yeah the direct x is for my windows machine it is running 98.
and btw live cd's rock. all the functionality of your os minus the install. i agree that for perm use i wouldn't want one however for public systems and times like this always good to have. especially as recovery discs.
and when you custom your own distro it's actually just fine just not as portable. so i don't do it i like conectivity and dis like microsoftone day the world will shout to me save us....
