What level is your herc? What's its unbuffed p.def? And can you tell us the unbuffed and buffed damage it takes from a same-level mob?

I did some testing today with my level 75 herc against normal level 75 deepwoods hermits. I saw them hit him for 159 to 181 unbuffed, which I'll average to 170. My herc's base physical defense is 7452. Plugging that into your foruma, his base damage reduction would be 71.3%, which means they were actually hitting for about 592 damage before reduction. This matches the pwdatabase stat of 540 to 660 physical attack damage for this monster.

Next I tested with buffs. They hit him for 78 to 90 damage. If my claim that his buffs multiply his defenses by 2.5 is correct, then his buffed physical defense should be 18,630. Your formula predicts his damage reduction would be 86.1%. Thus incoming damage should be reduced to 13.9% of its original value. 13.9% of 592 damage is 82.3, which is right in the midst of the observed range.

If the buffs only multiplied his defenses by 1.5, then his buffed physical defense would be 11,178. According to your formula, his damage reduction would be 78.8%, reducing incoming damage to 21.2% of its original value. 21.2% of 592 damage is 125.5, which is far outside the observed range.

I'd call that pretty solid evidence that my original statement is correct. The Hercules self-buffs do indeed multiply their respective defenses by 2.5.
