Yes, archers have AOE . And Yes, they are good.
Main AOE skill is → Barrage of Arrows
However, Thunderous Blast & Sharpened Tooth Arrow also do AOE damage.
And yes again, archer do cost more than BMs in terms of arrows and charms. Couple that with zhen and archers turn out to be one of the most expensive classes to play.
But are they worth it? Hell yes they are!!

archers have a few aoes, really for skills you should look at sticky and ecatomb.net
there is the zhen aoe of course(barrage) also useful in tight spots in FBs/TTs and in TW
the metal aoe is meh, sharpened tooth aoe is good for certain situations
wingspan is pretty good in FBs, save urself some when ganked my mobs, or when AoE grinding with someone to tank the mobs for you
the archer is NOT an AoE class in the grinding aspect unless they are with a BM really
archer vs BM cost well depends how its played, but the arrow cost at higher lvls is extremely small, archers can do many battles without using much/any hp/mp potions, but BMs can solo aoe grind or aoe grind with a cleric, which depending on bm skill, lvl, equips, and of course a wisely chosen mob can be fast xp and quite profitable
@morgul, if an archer is played right they are the 2nd lowest cost class to play after veno after lvl 60...., IF you play it right (in terms of proper grinding) you never have to buy pots, and the ones that drop will cover emergencies, a hp charm is worth keeping on though for mistakes/emergencies/tt/lags/backup0 -
so do archer's lvl fast?b:angryb:angryb:angryb:angryb:angryb:angryb:angry

if you got a good weapon and rings and kill the right mobs, heck yah-we kill mobs fast =fairly fast lvling
bms can solo aoe grind and lvl faster at 60+ though, cleric can aoe grind wood/poison mobs solo/fairly quickly0 -

Bow's, Cross-bow's and slingshots... hmmm. that's a toughie. Cross-bow's are strong, but slow. Slingshots are retarted fast, but weaker than the other two. And bow's are a mix. Go with your play style. Bows obviously look the coolest. I would pick two of them and just equip the highest level of the two each time you upgrade weapons. Good luck, and Welcome to PW :]0

yah theres typically a best weapon per lvl so go with that , molds, dropped 3* and quest equips dont come with each type at the same lvls , so usually just get whats best at the time/best you can find0

Hey guys, I'm new here... I just started yesterday with the game... Really a nice game :-)
Now I ran out of arrows but now I have some kind of Wooden wand. It seems that I can fight those beetles and stuff much better with the wand :-p
Do you guys think it's good to fight with other weapons, like this wand? Because normally an archer is supposed to fight with a bow and arrows :-)
But really, I never played this kind of games and I thought I wouldn't enjoy playing it, but I was wrong ;-) I really enkoy playing this game... Though I haven't got much time :-)0 -
Low level archers often have problems with range, when monsters run up and bite you. And if you like using melee weapons early on, then I think you should.
But before long you will get better bows, and skills which only work with ranged weapons. I think you should you try them when they become available.

@Mosz
wait a minute please explain how this is done to me. melee mobs especially forces me to use a lot of mana pots to make sure they don't get to me...and when they do it gets so hairy. i've burned through so many mana pots its stupid. now i've seen bm's and barbs having it worse against magic mobs focus firing on them when they try to do quests, maybe "low cost" is relative.0 -

my solution for faster melee mobs is knockback arrow and frost arrow.
problem solved.
That and using the S button to kite helps too.0 -

If you use winged shell, and pace yourself, you should not need potions very often. (Winged shell costs mana and then returns additional mana -- I have always leveled winged shell after leveling my passive skills and I occasionally give stacks of 100 potions to friends, because otherwise they would clutter my inventory.)
Kiting (using your "S" button) also works, even when winged shell would not, though that's often slower than holding your position and attacking.
If you want to pick up your pace, or if you find yourself fighting opponents that ignore your winged shell (any thing with damage over time, or mana drain), you might also want to try apothecary powders. (But if you over-use them, you will spend so much time collecting their ingredients you might have been better off meditating?)0 -
what they said also lower lvls seemed harder for me expense wise, then again i was slow to pick up the power of winged shell0

archer is the best class they do major damage trust me i have all the other characters at least lvl 20 but archers have nice skills and stuff"When life gives you arrows give them back ", Divine_Demon b:sin0

i have a question
is it possible to grind using lvl1 ammo throughout? or do i have to spend the money and get the corresponding lvl ammo to ensure i do not get touched by mobs
i really think that the higher lvl ammos are quite expensive for their return
also, how is it possible to not use a lot of pots especially when vs ranged magic mobs (poison) i found myself soaked with pots with those mobs0 -

I haven't bought a single arrow/bolt/shot apart from the basic ones (I use the ones I pick up too but I never buy them). The damage is negligible. I'm only lvl 66 though so take that however you want.0 -
thank you Legerity0

when do i get my first aoe? what level?0
-
technically, wingspan at lvl 39, but thats a melee range aoe.
next comes thunderous blast at lvl 44, sharpened tooth at lvl 49, and finally barrage of arrows at 59.
i haven't gotten barrage yet, but i have the other 3. in my experiences using those aoe's at lvl 1 against mobs my lvl just draws a crowd and its like i bit off more than i can chew0 -

hi just want to get something cleared up
how is archer cheap to play?
i find myself potting very frequently, especially against ranged magic mobs
can anyone explain this to me plz0 -
Archer is cheap to play if you build yourself for economy.
An economy build needs to keep costs down (balancing ammo, mana, health, time, repairs and skill costs), which sometimes means not doing things which would make sense for other people.
If you build for economy you should max your passive skills, and you should never level take aim, nor quickshot (you should never level skills where level 2 costs you twice the mana of level 1 -- especially when they have 3 second cooldowns and their casting and channeling time are faster than your normal shots -- and take aim only takes 0.6 seconds if you trigger it fast enough, and quickshot only takes 1 second). You should maximize your passive skills first, and your long duration skills next. Winged Shell, in particular, can help your endurance (keeping you from losing health and giving you back some small bits of mana).
You should also be leveling your apothecary skills. Gather golden herbs and nectars and make ten batches of life powder. Gather salvia and crane herb and make ten batches of focus powder. Yes, they take forever to gather, but they are free.
Also, use regenerating gear, especially when you do not have herbs helping you. +2mp/second will let you fly indefinitely using flight mastery. +6/second or +10/second mana or health can be really helpful.
Also, whenever you see a barbarian or cleric in need, help them! They have dedicated themselves to making life easier for archers. Likewise, help venos and humans. Squad costs tend to be far lower than solo costs and usually involve less "down time" between fights.
I need to go but this might be enough to get you started?0 -
yes and speaking about squads, whwen ever ppl get invited in them they should always accept cuz u get more experience from it.. for example, u kill a mob worth 300EXP, then u party with someone forming a duo.. u wont get 150 each but u get something around 180 or 190+.. the more ppl in parties the more % gain u get to about +100% at a full party of 6.. i just cant stand it when i invite ppl to squad and thy say "sorry i need more EXP" -___-[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
